nittanydoug
I'm getting a squeal/noise from what I assume is the power lift gate arm when I close the rear hatch. 2014 SEL. It sounds like it is just in need of lube but before I squirt some good ol' WD40 on it, I wanted to see if there was an actual correct way to lubricate it. I don't think it is the struts making the sound.
chefduane
WD40 is not a lubricant, it is a water displacement substance. If you do find a way to lube it, I would suggest a silicone spray of some type or white lithium if you can get it in there.
akirby
White lithium grease would be the best I think. You can get it in spray cans with the straw just like WD-40.
nittanydoug
I have white lithium spray. I knew the WD-40 would get some people going. WD-40 has it's place but I would agree that the liftgate isn't one of them.
akirby
WD-40 is fine but it's temporary. Grease lasts a lot longer.
lildisco
Good Ol' Fluid Film works for me
nittanydoug
I've got fluid film too. I'll see if I can take a look tonight to see what I can get in there.
chefduane
Why have I never heard of Fluid Film before? Googled it - looks like pretty good stuff. Don't recall seeing it at my local O'Reilly's or AZ but I wasn't really looking for it. I'll have to check it out.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Just be sure NOT to lubricate the struts. You can clean them, but do not spray any type of lubricant on them.
enigma-2
After cleaning around the hatch, my power lift arm started squeeking. I used Super Lube (contains PTFE). Nothing better.
