Headlight/ Domelight switch

Recommended Posts

For a little while now I've had issues with the dome lights not turning on in my Edge. When I open the door the lights don't turn on, when I press the switch next to the headlight switch they also don't turn on. I can manually press the switch on each light and they will turn on. When I pull the fuse labeled in the manual for the interior lighting, puddle lamps, backlighting (fuse 12) the lights are still useable (manually). Is there a relay accoiated with these lights? I've already purchased the headlight/dome light switch but don't want to install it if it turns out to be a relay.

Thanks in advance.

The interior lights are powered by the smart junction box (fuse #25 in a 2009 mkx). If the interior lights are not working when you open the door, it's probaby related to fuse 25 or the battery saver relay in the smart junction box. (Look in your owner's manual for your correct fuse number. May be different than mine).

If the interior lights do not come on when you turn on the switch on the interior lamps center (headlight switch), that switch, wiring or connections are bad.

If the lights do not come on when you use the overhead console switch, it's in that switch, wiring or connections.

If neither switch turns on the interior lights, check fuse no. 9 (again 2009 mkx).

I went back and checked all 3 of the pertinent fuses (4,10 & 12). All are fine. I did notice, however, that when I hit the switch on the dash (headlight control console that also has the interior “all lights on” switch, the courtesy lights under the left and right mirrors on the outside go on and off. They toggle between on and off with each button push. So, the switch contacts seem fine. Any other suggestions?
