luxpow
I had a fender bender recently and am getting repairs done from insurance company recommended shop. My 2016 Edge is just an over an year old and thus still under the 3 yr warranty. Question is : Must Ford be involved somehow in the process to ensure the warranty is not void ? The repair shop said no need but I dont know if I can just take their word on it.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
No need, the insurance company has the accident on record if need be. You are not doing it on the sly, so it's all good. The only caveat I have is that with any accident minor or major, make sure the sensors are all working properly and are in good physical condition before you accept the car back from the repair shop. Very often, something will get misaligned or partly broken. Keep an eye out for that. Edited August 25, 2017 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
enigma-2
Keep in mind that any aftermarket part installed will not be covered under the factory warranty. This also includes anything the aftermarket part causes a failure in the original car. I had a guy slide into.my at a red light last winter, his insurance company told me to get three estimates from companies on their list. I said no, I already had an estimate from the local Ford dealer and was going to have it fixed there. There was some back and forth, and I said, it's going to be fixed there, I'll pay for it and send the bill to their client. They immediately accepted the Ford garage and dealt directly with them. Paid for Enterprise as well.
luxpow
Thanks guys. The shop said they will put only Ford OEM parts since my car's age and mileage is so low. They however seem to be going overboard with what all to do. It was a minor fender bender in the front left corner with minor scratch on the wheel. They are going to replace the tire and have listed rear view mirror, door handle etc. which are far away from the damage. On asking they said, its required for paint bending. I guess I can just hope that they dont go overboard with repairs just to jack up the bill and screw up my car in the process.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
They could be fitting in unrelated items just to get you properly taken care of. Do not know if that is the case here, but some shops do do that.
luxpow
Agreed. I ought to remain positive. After all, the shop is insurance company's preferred shop and both of them together promise lifetime guarantee of repairs. The last and worst thing I could do is become the smart kid around the corner who guides them what exactly to do. Result would be them saying, since you lead the whole process, now you own anything that goes wrong.
todd92
A warranty cannot be 'voided'.
akirby
A warranty cannot be 'voided'. Technically it can under certain very specific circumstances. But generally the mfr can only refuse to honor a warranty on specific parts that were modified or damaged by the owner.
David Young
Every body shop I've dealt with (friends, family and me) has a 'life time' warranty on what they do. Paint, corrosion and fit. Can't ask for a better deal than that
