Dash Cam 2017 Titaniam Edge

Recommended Posts

Wiring advice for a dash camera? I am installing one up by the rear view mirror on my 2017 Titaniam with the moon roof. (I'm assuming the 2015 & 2016 are the same) would there be a constant and switched power under the overhead consol? If so would anyone have a wiring diagram and know how to remove it? Or should I try to get the cables down the A Pillad and a cross the dash to get them to the fuse panel. I do not want to see any wires at all.

thanks in advance

I just put one in my 2007, no BAMR. All the power on mine in that area is always on. You may have better luck with the moon roof. The cameras usually pull only about 5V 1A. You will need to convert the 12V in order to use it. Read the specs on your camera to be sure. Running down the A pillar only took a few minutes on a 2007.

I pull power from the rear view mirror. It switches on when the ignition is in run, off when turned off (power remains on until door is opened, just like radio). For the wiring I use a harness made by Mirror Tap. http://www.mirrortap.com/ford.html

Ā

You simply push the two connectors into the connector socket along side the existing wires. And then use a supplied wire tie to provide strain relief on the harness. Takes only a few minutes.

Ā

You could call them (888) 497-8388 m-f 7:30 - 4:39 pst and they can walk you through which harness would work with your Edge and camera combo. Also which pins to use in the mirror connector for (+) and (-). (Your connector wires will be different than my 09). Anyway, easiest and quickest way to power a radar detector or camera.

I am in the process of hard wiring my dash cam also. I already ran the cable along the windshield, down the A pillar, and under the drivers side dash. The little storage drawer to the left of the steering wheel (under the light switch) will pull out very easily. Thru that hole you can clearly see the fuse panel and by reaching up underneath, you can access the fuses. I am working on getting the right fuse panel plug before i can finish up. I will post a full write up once I finish, should be in the next few days. That mirror tap thing doesn't offer a mini USB adapter, so if your dash cam is mini USB you are SOL for that option.

Please let me know where you get the fuse tap from. I haven't been able to find the micro size, just the mini.

Ā

I have the Viofo A119S dash cam that has mini USB power connector. I will be getting my Micro 2 fuse tap on Wednesday and will complete my installation then. Someone else on the forum used fuse number 23, which is the 10 amp delayed accessory fuse, so I'm going to try that one first.

Ā

Here is a link to Amazon for the Micro 2 fuse tap you need (I like that it comes with a 10 amp and 20 amp fuse):

The first kit I got had a fuse tap for mini fuses only, this is the reason I'm only half way done. Not sure if you figured this out yet, but the little coin drawer that is to the left of the steering wheel, underneath the headlight switch comes out really easy by pulling straight out. This will give you a very clear view of the fuse panel. All you need to do is reach up under the dash while looking thru the drawer hole, super easy. Also, I ran my cable down the drivers side A pillar (obviously), but you don't need to remove the weather stripping (someone else on this forum did that in their write up), I will post pics of the only two panels you need to remove to run the cable properly. More to follow.

It's just +12 volts off the delayed power source. Operates exactly as the radio, once the car is in run, power comes on and stays on until you open a door (or it times out in 20 minutes). On mine it's a radar detector, but it would work perfectly for a camera as well. You can order a specific length and connection plug. (Think I'm running 9" harness with .08" taps, inline fuse and with RJ-11 connector.) Simular to this: MirrorTap MTX Series Radar Detector Power Cord With 2 Amp In-Line Fuse, Military Grade Taps, RJ11,10" Long https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I1XF4XU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tApIzbBZ2FR88

(Beats routing a wire all the way to fuse panel, turns on anf off automatically and easy to remove when you sell).
