jud1113
Every so often, though always at night, my backup appears very grainy. Any ideas?
enigma-2
I'm only guessing, but that it happens ever so often, I would be looking at low light. The most obvious reason why this would happen at one time but not another is the lens is dirty. Grim, dirt and oil will reduce the amount of light entering the camera. (Less light = grainer image). You would not notice any problems in daylight as the camera is low lux and the there's more than enough light to get above the noise threshold. First try cleaning the lens. You could provide more light by switching the license plate and/or backup lights with high output LEDs.
WingNut
I noticed on my 15 if that I turn my headlamps/parking lamps off while being in reverse at night, it makes it a lot easier to see behind me. With my lights on, the reverse camera at night is tough to see. My mustang (2011) doesn't have this issue.
enigma-2
Almost sounds like there's light spillover from the taillights. Light shinning on the lens may be fooling it into turning down the gain. Could testbthis by fashioning a baffle of sorts to see if that's the problem.

Given my Edge is white, I think that coupled with the lights from the rear are tricking it in to thinking it is bright out.
enigma-2
Try making a small cardboard baffle (perhas using a empty toilet paper roll) (painted black). Just something temporary to test this hypothesis.
