Check you map options. If you have one the necessary options turned off, it can only use what you premitted it to route you to your destination.

One other point that can cause this, is if you a "waypoint" set. (Sheepishly admitting that moi had done this in the past). Waypoints are intermediate destinations, not the final destination. I use these sometimes to force navigation to route me onto a particular road or highway, one the software will not consider using. If you had one set, the program may had tried to route you to that waypoint and then back to your destination.

Also you get three routes presented. One is shortest, one is unrestricted and one is fastest. The difference between them can make a big difference in miles or time.

As an example, I plugged in a trip to one of our favorite restraunts. The shortest was 26 miles and 35 min, and unrestrcited (and fastest) was 30 miles and 35 min. Same destination, same miles, one route requires more miles to get there. (If you look at the map on the screen, each route had a (slightly) different color. Click the one you want and Sync will continue to use that particular route.

I've had similar issues with the maps in Sync 3. There's a bridge near me that Sync 3 simply refuses to navigate over no matter which routing option I use. It's a toll bridge but it doesn't matter if I have tolls enabled or disabled in the map options, it won't route over the bridge until I'm actually on the bridge. Most of the routes that avoid that bridge would add about a half hour to my trip. I'd rather just pay the toll.

I also get occasional warnings that the map is incomplete for the area I'm in. Admittedly, those warnings tend to come up in more rural areas, but I haven't noticed any missing roads on the map in those areas. There are missing streets in the city though and i don't get any incomplete map warnings there. When I drive onto one of the missing streets, it will just say "off route" and won't give directions until I'm back on a street that's on the map.

Based on the streets that are missing, I think the Sync 3 maps are about two to three years old. Also, speed limits are wrong on the maps. They changed limits for quite a few highways around here about three years ago and the Sync 3 maps still show the old speed limits.

I've noticed enough issues that I don't think I'd want to rely on Sync 3 maps if I were planning to be driving in an unfamiliar city or area. It's pretty much useless at giving a semi-accurate ETA. I'm sure it would eventually get me to my destination, but I'm not so sure I'd be driving a very direct route. Let's just say I won't be getting rid of my trusty old Garmin GPS. I've used that thing all over Canada and US and quite a few countries in Europe and it's never failed me. I get updates for it 3 or 4 times a year for the life of the GPS (Europe maps were an extra $120 CAD or so, but now that I've paid for them, they update for free now too). I don't think updates for our Sync 3 maps will be free or anywhere near as often.

Google Maps and Waze are both good alternatives and are much more up to date although I occasionally have to reboot Sync 3 when Android Auto stops working. Waze doesn't show speed limits or lane guides, but it seems to be a bit better at routing around traffic issues. It would be nice if the Android based maps could be shown on the home screen like the Sync 3 maps, but they're full screen only.

Just spent a week in and around Seattle. The car we had didn't have navigation so I used Google Maps on my Android. It continously updated in real time the time to destination based on traffic flow.

And it also ran me around in circles every once in awhile for the fun of it. (Who in the hell designed the freeways in the Seattle area)?

And the homeless... been years since I was in Seattle. Now the signs read "I'm tired of begging, I just want to get drunk". :-)

Son lives in Ballard just North of downtown. It's a great citty/area although it's really damp, dark and dreary in winter.

Yup. Lots of depression as well. My son lines in North Bend (where they film Twin Peaks). He has a couple of full spectrum lights he uses to recharge himself.

Hear it rains some as well. ;-)

We're headed to Seattle next week on vacation. I ordered a Ford Escape from Budget, but I doubt it will have Navi.

I'll use my Garmin that I keep for these occasions, or my phone with either Waze or Google Maps.

No rain at all in the forecast so far, I hope that holds.
