fishx65
2011 SEL 94,000. Checked front suspension and everything is tight including swaybar links. I know I have a strut bearing starting to growl a little but has anyone ever gotten any clunking from a bad front strut or strut mount???? enigma-2
Sounds like a spring bearing mount is frozen (corroded) and not turing when you make s turn. This allows the spring to buildup tension, and when high enough, the spring jumps in its mounting. Makes a loud clunking sound as it snaps from point-to-point in its mount. Does it sound like this?
macbwt
Strut bearing rarely fail. It is usually the bushing inside the strut bearing that separates and allows the struck to physically bounce up and down causing the thumping sound.
fishx65
Thanks guys! It does sound more like a strut mount bushing. I can feel and hear it when going over even small bumps. Still deciding on strut brand but will go ahead and order the Motorcraft strut mounts this week.
enigma-2
Something I found unusual about struts, Motorcraft part numbers change depending on the wheel size. Not so with aftermarket. It almost as if the Motorcraft struts were "tuned" to the actual suspension of each specific car.
fishx65
Torn between Motorcrafts and Monroe OE Spectrums. Kinda thinkin that Monroe's will provide the softer ride.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Motorcraft, no doubt. Monroe units will not last, IMHO. You may think you want a softer ride, but it may be a reaction possibly to the bad ride from worn struts/shocks. Tires also make a significant difference in that department. addisonm06
i recently installed new struts and strut mounts on my edge. I went with Motorcraft OEM for both from rock auto. Easy install and went together smoothly. I too was told to stay away from Monroe struts, and regardless Motorcraft Mounts were the unanimous choice. No issues so far, and glad i went OEM.
