SMR2818
I have installed a aftermarket double din radio in a 2014 Ford Edge SEL and now the car will not start but before install was working fine, radio works properly in the accessory key position but when trying to start the car the engine turns over but will not start and the instrument cluster makes clicking noises, battery was tested to be good at the parts store and the car has less than 40,000 miles on it, harness connections were also double checked. Anyone know what the cause could be? Do I need to get a stronger battery than the 540 cold crank amp battery I currently have? akirby
You probably need a new battery if it's more than 3 years old no matter what the auto parts tester says.
enigma-2
^agree 2x. Try charging the battety and see if it will hold a charge. Only way I can see the connection with the radio is, something got hooked up wrong and it's draining the battery.
SMR2818
Battery is only 3 years old and it is holding a charge, still getting the same symptoms with the radio removed. Same symptoms happen just by opening the driver door with no key in the ignition, interior lights and the door keypad light flashes and instrument panel clicks and the gauge needles woble a little and this happens with each click but then stops when the headlamp exit delay time is reached.
akirby
I've never gotten more than 3 years out of a battery in Georgia and those seem like classic symptoms. Just bite the bullet and replace the battery. If nothing else you'll have peace of mind for the next 3 years and you've ruled out the most likely cause.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Group 65 battery highly recommended, these vehicles are electricity hogs. Motorcraft ToughMAX, Odyssey AGM, Sears AGM etc. should serve you well. The terminals have been tightened correctly? Checked parasitic draw? CCAs need to be tested, not just voltage to determine good/bad battery.
autom8r
Disconnect the I link and the Metra. One or the other and perhaps both may be interfering with the CAN bus. The Edge is mostly fly-by-wire and any third party overlay risks disruption of the signals along the communication path between modules. Diagnosis will typically involve an oscilliscope which is typically outside the range of a Sunday mechanic. Good luck.
