captmark
I want to use a portable music player in my 2017 Edge Sport that does not have a USB output, but it has a mini stereo headphone jack. Has anyone found a mini stereo (TRS plug) to usb adapter that the Sync 3 usb input can see? I don't need it to do anything on screen, I just want to hear the analog audio like the usb input was a regular Aux input... captmark
I should have but didn't point out that my music player is hi-res audio (24bit /96k and 192k WAV and FLAC files) Because the Sync 3's usb flash drive doesn't support hi-res audio in digital form I would have to convert songs down in quality. The sync 3 loads every song's metadata into it every time you start the car- my hi res music player holds 128 gig and I own over 4TB of hi res audio-it would take an hour just to load in a 128gig drive's titles if they were on a flash drive... no point in a 20 minute trip. Plus converting thousands of songs downward in quality just to play in the car would take an age and defeat the purpose when all I need is an aux input or a way to trick the USB input to read audio only. TheWizard
Google is your friend. Amazon has 3.5mm stereo to USB 2.0 adapters for under $10 (no cable - you would need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to connect your player to the adapter). Even Walmart sells an adapter cable with USB 2.0 male A plug on one end and 3.5mm stereo plug on the other for $6.56.
akirby
Doesn't seem like that should work but I guess it's cheap enough to just try it and see. Those should only work on computers where the OS is using usb for audio output like a headset, etc. Since Sync 3 is looking for either a storage device or a mp3 player I don't think it would work. When using a usb drive it doesn't have to reindex or reload anything each time - I have over 1000 songs on a usb stick and it starts up and plays immediately. It only has to re-index when you change something. Are you sure it doesn't support hi-res WAV and FLAC files? I'm seeing folks reporting that it does but I haven't tried it myself. Is there a link to a test file somewhere I can try?
NoDTMF
The thing is, converting from the analog to USB probably results in a lows res bitstream....so your hi res audio is lost anyway. So just make a USB stick with 256 aac. Unless you've upgraded the car audio system I doubt your missing anything. I have 64 go stick full time and seems to be working fine. chefduane
I would second the ripping to a usb stick. Easiest way to do it. Or, just put all you music on your iphone and use Bluetooth. Besides, unless you have upgraded your speakers in the Sport, playback is only going to be as good as the output quality of your speakers. candurin
Sync 2.0 supports Apple lossless files (my iPod, yes iPod, is filled with them). If I recall FLAC worked from my thumb drive as well. I would expect 3.0 to support the same. Edited July 26, 2017 by candurin
ben senise
sync 3 supports FLAC. I have many on a 128GB USB stick in my 2016 Edge. It does not re-index unless you take out the stick and make changes to it. converting analog to digital on a $10 device will sound like garbage. rvcjew
Also +1, I just moved my flac files over to a 64GB stick and it works fine. Putting over 200GB seems to freeze the index system if they are all lvl 5 flac. @captmark what player do you have that you want to send from, seems that only Bluetooth will work in your scenario, are you sure your player can not be put into a mass storage mode?
