Cuate06
I have a 2011 Edge, I just replaced the cooling fan assembly a couple of days ago. When I turn the A/C on, it begins to overheat. I noticed that the fan kicks on when the a/c is turned on but it shuts off after a couple of seconds and on and off. Than it begins to overheat and blow hot air. Any ideas what it could be? akirby
Sounds like a bad fan controller/assembly or bad connections. Both fans should be on when the A/C is on.
omar302
Further to akirby, what fan did you use for the replacement? Several members complained of non-Motorcraft fans giving them problems.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Sometimes aftermarket fans will have modules with reversed connections. Might've fried the replacement module, try putting the OEM module on the new assembly and see.
Cuate06
The Fan replacement I bought was from O'Reilly Auto Parts. On the old one, only one fan worked.
Yomama
I bought a dan unit from O'Reilly as well and it's not working... It's looking like I'll have to drop some more money on a Motorcraft one. I'm still having overheating issues. Plugged in my wireless obd2 scanner and the temp starts getting past 230 and the needle rises, neither fan is moving... Not good
enigma-2
It's been reported that on some of the aftermarket fan centers, the connection pin outs are wrong in the fan center connector (the one the car's harness connects t. You could do a pin-by-pin trace and figure out which pins need to be swapped in tbe connector. (Believe it was only two wires that were in the wrong pin slots). (Possibly a cut and switch on the two wires. Easier then r&r with a new unit).
