ClaytonL
So my sync doesn't recognize my phone. The sync lost connection so I did a master reset like I've done in the past and now when I hit add phone it says - initializing by. Please try again. The car isn't even searching for a signal. The message pops up instantly. Any ideas for a fix?
basment
I had a similar issue with my wife's Fusion. It would not connect with her phone but would freeze on the "Trying to Connect" message. I deleted both of the phones it listed in memory and started the connect to phone over and has worked fine since. Don't know if this helps or not, but her Fusion has My Ford Touch.....
ClaytonL
I do that also. I remove the device and I also do the master reset. But now it doesn't even look for the phone
akirby
Did you try resetting the phone or trying a different phone?
ClaytonL
It's not the phone. The car doesn't try to get the signal.
akirby
Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes.

ben senise
I too have had many problems with the sync 3 on my 16 edge. sometimes when it wouldn't connect, i found that the BT wasn't even on and it won't go on when i press the button on the screen. this is a long shot but have you checked to see if BT is on? ClaytonL
I didn't realize you could turn it off. Where do I check that
ben senise
I didn't realize you could turn it off. Where do I check that judging by the pic you posted, you have a different model of infotainment system than i do. according to the user manual for the '15 edge, p 261, go to the phone menu, select BT Devices, then ON/OFF. let me know if that's right and if it works. good luck! enigma-2
In the electric copy of the 2015 OM I've seen, it was on page 366. (Also make certain that the car is in park when you are attempting to connect).

NeuroBeaker
I just purchased a 2015 Ford Edge Titanium, which has Sync (MyFordTouch), and have had it for a couple of days now. From the service history, I understand that the previous owner had some problems with the bluetooth on the car, and taking it in for a reset was a frequent warranty complaint by him. When I started familiarizing myself with the car, I noticed that it would not connect to a phone. It'd say that bluetooth was switched off and must be turned on to continue. When selecting the button on the screen to turn the bluetooth on, it would think about it for a while and then abort the operation, taking me back to the homescreen or to the phone screen showing no phone was connected. I haven't done a master reset in the settings menu, but I have done a soft reset: simultaneously press and hold both the infotainment power button (top left) and the track forward seek button (lower down) together for 3-4 seconds until you get a response. The Sync system rebooted itself, was able to turn on bluetooth, and was able to connect to my phone. I have had one other time where the same problem resurfaced, and the same solution fixed it - the phone automatically connected via bluetooth as soon as the system came back online. The only downside that I can see is that if it occurs when you're in a rush and you need SatNav to get to where you're going, you're going to have to choose between driving without your hands-free calling enabled or waiting for 2-3 minutes for your Sync system to reboot before programming your route. All the best, Andrew.
