Chaddler
2011 edge 106k miles. Car make a spraying noise when turning left at speeds greater than 10 mph. The power steering system is quiet at idle. The noise is coming from the glove box area. All fluids are up and don't see anything leaking. Braking doesn't affect the noise, go straight and it goes away. No water in oil. Can the water pump impeller move at all and inertia would cause it to make a strange noise. Could it be freon noise, A/C works great. I'm lost, thanks
fishx65
Strut bearings can make some funky noises.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Classic signs of a blocked evap drain. Look behind the carpet on the driver side of the center console, near the gas pedal. You will see a tube with a joint. this is the evap drain. Have a catchbasin handy for the flood of water that will follow when you disconnect the upper half of the tube. After that, blow some compressed air through the lower tube. Can o Air should work fine. Do this a couple of times, and then every change of season to keep the drain clear. If you don't unblock the drain you will end up throwing water into the blower motor and then have to replace that as well. Not difficult to do, buy why waste money.
Chaddler
Thanks, I will check that out, don't have the car right now.
Chaddler
Sure enough the drain was clogged. About a gallon of water came out. The spraying noise was water hitting the fan. Drying out the carpet now, the 100 degree weather should help and idling with the heater on high and carpet pulled up. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.
enigma-2
After the drain clogged, the water in the housing sometimes starts to turn moldly. Even though you drain the water out, the mold remains. A good product for eliminating any remaining mold is Kool-It. It's cheap and easy to use. Here's where you can find it on Amazon. Lubegard 96030 Kool-It Evaporator and Heater Foam Cleaner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007PHD0S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ehbxzbND266P2 And here's a Youtube video on how to use it. https://youtu.be/Bi22mdXj3wM Edited July 4, 2017 by enigma-2
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The pros use BG FrigiClean, so that's an alternative, but more involved than the Kool-It. Watch for kinks in the evap drain line, that makes it hard for the tube to advance far enough up the drain to allow the foam to reach the evaporator instead of just draining back out. https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/climate-control/bg-frigi-clean/ as part of https://www.bgprod.com/services/climate-control/ http://infinitipartsusa.com/v/vspfiles/downloadables/Frigi-Clean%20instructions.pdf Edited July 4, 2017 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Chaddler
Thanks, I didn't know a product for that was available. Good to know.
IWRBB
Tried that BG stuff and had no luck on an Escape. What did work was to get it up to normal temperature, turn the A/C on and with the temp control on high, then sprayed about a half a can of Lysol into the cowl where the air was being sucked in. I did it at a carwash so I could spray off the Lysol residue from the cowl plastic when I was finished. Got rid of the stank and it never came back. The lysol "linen scent" or whatever it was went away after a day or so.
