2011 Ford Edge HVAC touchscreen phantom clicks

Hey all--Having issues with a late 2011 Ford Edge Limited with Sync.

 

I'm getting phantom clicks for one of the HVAC touch screen buttons (specifically, fan speed down button). It clicks down CONSTANTLY; there's no way to keep the fan going as it's always clicking down. It's pretty damn annoying as it's starting to get hot out and we can't keep the fan going as it's constantly clicking down to the lowest fan speed.

 

A couple questions:

 

-Has anybody else seen this? I searched around and didn't see any other similar issues.

 

-Any tips on the part number for the component? I looked through the Ford parts catalog and none of the images matched.

 

-Is there any chance the newer HVAC control with physical buttons instead of the touchscreen will act as a drop-in replacement?

I did get a part number (BT4Z-18842-CA) for the touch screen panel. Looks like it's not gonna be cheap; general search shows ~$600 for the part.

 

Should I try this part first? Or is there a controller that I should try replacing?

First, you can easily find a used one for much cheaper on eBay.
