EDST777
Hi, everybody. I looked for at a forum but didn't find the answer. Maybe somebody will answer. In a manual it is specified that it is necessary to inspect driving belts. How it is correct to make it? Only a small visible part of belts is available to visual inspection. Whether it is necessary to use for this purpose a repair hole, a platform or the elevator whether it is necessary to remove something to get access for more careful inspection at a short distance? Your opinion? Edited June 30, 2017 by EDST777
akirby
It is difficult to determine whether they need to be replaced just by looking at them. I would probably just replace them every 5-6 years to be safe.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Jack up the passenger side (put it on a stand), take off the wheel, wheel well liner, then you can see pretty much all you are going to see. Don't need to see all of it, usually the wear will show throughout the belt run. Have a STRONG light handy. Look for belt wear as illustrated below. There were cracks on mine, and to me the belts looked a bit glazed. So I had them replaced. http://www.gates.com/products/automotive/tools-and-sales-aids/belt-wear-diagnosis/epdm-belt-wear-diagnosis http://www.underhoodservice.com/10-tips-serpentine-belt-system-inspection-service/ Extreme temperatures wear down everything faster. If you live in such an area, might easily have to cut the inspection/replacement interval in half.
