coeperc
How many years of service have you guys been getting out of your battery? In my 2012 SE I've replaced two batteries already. First one after 2 years, second after 2.5 years. Both were ford batteries. The first replacement was under warranty so I had them do it. I did not realize after they replace your battery at Ford under warranty once, then even if that replacement fails before 36 months it is NOT covered at all. Just paid $160 for a new battery. Since I paid then this time it is under warranty supposedly so it would be replaced if it fails again in another 36 months for free. Just curious how much time others are getting out of their batteries and what brands they are using. I should say I'm in FL where it is consistently over 90 degrees in summer so I'm sure that takes its toll on the battery but 2-2.5 years doesn't seem like much. -Matt
enigma-2
Batteries last 2-6 years. Heat and humidity will definitely shorten it's life. You might get a kick out of this video, guy restores a dead battery using Epsom Salts. Other videos show battery still in use 6 months later. In the hot and humid area of Australia. coeperc
In the 98 Explorer I had before this vehicle I routinely got 6-8 years out of a battery. It seems like the newer vehicles equipped with more electronics eat up batteries quicker, and batteries are just not made as well now either. At least that is what it seems like to me. -Matt
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
3 years in a moderate climate is "normal" nowadays. Less time in extremes, esp. HOT climates. that's why it is better to go with AGM batteries if you want longer lived/deeper cycling batteries. Very easy for Gen 1.5 owners to get an upgrade, since the battery size is easily available (group 65, I think). Odyssey if you can afford, otherwise many other nice but lowercapacity AGM offerings. chefduane
I was usually getting 4-5 years out of batteries in my 2 previous Explorers. Here in Texas the heat will kill a battery quickly. I just replaced a battery in my Edge due to an alternator problem. I went with an BXT-65-860 AGM. Hopefully it will last a while. EDIT: He's got the same Harbor Freight Battery Charger I have. Nice little unit for about $29.00 w/ coupon, of course. macbwt
I have converted both of my Edge's to an AGM battery. My wife's Edge has the EDGE AGM Battery sold at Menards and I have the Odyssey Extreme AGM battery in my Edge.

Chipster
Using one of these will do wonders in extending battery life. Just use the included quick connect / disconnect and you will extend the life of your battery if you use it regularly. https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0128-Maintain-Damaging/dp/B00068XCQU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498682278&sr=8-1&keywords=deltran+battery+tenders

chefduane
I bought my Duracell AGM at Sam's for $169.00. I have one of those battery disconnectors but not installed it as yet. Not really sure if I have a need for it.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Might be better off with a DEI mat for the battery. Keep the battery from getting too hot/cold. Just a thought.

chefduane
I use one of those for my motorcycle battery when I am not going to be riding for a period of time. Seems to work well on the Yuasa battery.
