Dmn
I have a 2011 Ford Edge front wheel drive. When my edge is in idle I hear a knocking noice from the engine. What is it from?
akirby
Which engine do you have? If it's the 2.0L ecoboost a loud ticking noise is normal and is due to the direct injection. If you have the 3.5L or it's more of a knock than a loud tick you should check the oil level first then have it checked by a mechanic.
PaulSchott
my 2007 3.5 developed a slight knock right before the water pump died. It was the chains getting loose. Have it checked before you possibly have some serious engine damage. listen to the front side of the engine for this noise. It sounds like a loose pulley or a bad belt tensioner.

Dmn
It is a knock when idling not a tick.
PaulSchott
If you record it maybe we can tell what it is. The noise I'm talking about would be described as a knock. Where is it coming from?
macbwt
The 1st Gen 3.5 and the 1.5 TiVCT are pretty much the same as far as the noise. I am not hearing anything different in them at the 200,000 mile mark. Never was what I would call a quiet engine in the first place.
akirby
1.5?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Gen 1.5 ... 3.5 having the TiVCT.
akirby
Gen 1.5 ... 3.5 having the TiVCT. So there is the 1.0 3.5 and the 1.5 3.5 not to be confused with the 2.0 3.5 (which is the same as the 1.5 3.5) but not to be confused with the 1.0 1.5 in the Fusion.
Chipster
So there is the 1.0 3.5 and the 1.5 3.5 not to be confused with the 2.0 3.5 (which is the same as the 1.5 3.5) but not to be confused with the 1.0 1.5 in the Fusion. You've gone and done it! Now I am confused. Edited June 20, 2017 by Chipster
enigma-2
If there's any possibility of a water pump, check the color of the oil on your dipstick. It should look like clean oil. If it's milky colored, get it in asap.

macbwt
1.5? Actually you forgot about the 1.5 3.7 and 2.0, but who's counting.
