trockli Posted June 9, 2017 Report Share Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) I have a 2011 Ford Edge XLT wit about 50k miles. Over time the steering became very though and needs a lot to of force to turn. I know there is a TSB: http://www.revbase.com/BBBMOTOR/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=171187 However, the issue persists at all time and does not depend on temperature. Of course it is more noticeable on a parking lot. However, the issue is always there even at high speed, just less bothersome - similar to driving a very old car. I also checked steering fluid levels which seem ok, and I performed the steering fluid DIY flush method. No change. I recall that the dealer replaced the steering pump during the first year of ownership. Other Ford vehicles have recalls with electrical problems. Not sure if this is something similar. Not sure of the model of your Edge as there is no XLT Maybe an SE, SEL, Limited or Sport Your issue is either missing power steering belt, no fluid, bad pump, leaking hoses which would be no fluid, or a bad rack. Those are about the only points that would affect steering. I had the chance to drive somebody else's Edge. The steering seemed similar. Are the Edge's known to have a heavy steering? Used to be common for cars to have over-assist until about 20 yrs or so ago. There might be speed-variable assist also, but IDK for sure. omar302 Posted June 10, 2017 Report Share Posted June 10, 2017 The 2011-2014 (& 2015 MKX) are known for having a heavy steering, especially compared to vehicles with electrically assisted steering system. trockli Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 10, 2017 I checked the records. The steering pump got replaced only after 6000 miles. Steering was pretty bad at times and I am sure it was better afterwards. From the service ticket (reading my complaint) it seemed to be consistent with he TSB that was later instituted.
