montyvox
Good morning- I have a 2008 Ford Edge with the 3.5L V6 and I've been hearing this noise coming from the right side of the motor for some time now, but I noticed lately it's getting louder under a heavier throttle. It sounds like when the defrost/ac compressor when it is on and under load, but a majority of the time the A/C or defrost is off, so it's still happening. Anyone have any ideas? Water Pump maybe? Thanks Matt
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Depends on the sound. Could be belts/belt tensioner, a bad pulley on the alternator/compressor/power steering pump, etc. A mechanic's stethescope can help narrow down the origin. How many miles on your Edge, and what is the maintenance history? You can check recommended service intervals on http://www.fleet.ford.com/partsandservice/maintenance-schedules/ A video/audio clip demonstrating the sound would help a great deal. montyvox
My Edge has 170K on it- Again it's been happening for a while now, but it's getting louder under a heavier throttle. It's not as bad when it's cold but as it gets warmer you can definitely hear it.
macbwt
A lot of moving parts on that side and your description is lacking clarity to help identify the issue.

enigma-2
"Right" as you are facing the engine or right when sitting the drivers seat? Just to rule it out, check your oil and see if it still looks good. Edited May 26, 2017 by enigma-2

enigma-2
Heh heh, was thinking the noise might be traced to a failing water pump dumping coolant into the oil along with defective timing chain guides.
