MemphisMike
Hello, after years of threatening to buy an EDGE, i finally sold my 2006 Murano with a quarter million miles on it and upgraded to a 2013 SEL with 21K miles on it. I am very happy with my purchase and I am curious to know if there are any special steps I need to take when syncing my new car. The vehicle had one owner previously. It is my understanding that syncing is a process and takes a bit of time. Any other comments/advice would be appreciated too.
akirby
You don't really sync the car, you just sync your phone or mp3 player or usb stick so that it knows what songs you have for voice recognition and to display on the browse menu. This normally only takes a few minutes after you first plug it in.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
I believe you have to have the engine running while you perform Sync updates.
MemphisMike
So my EDGE does not have an SD Navigation card. It seems as if I have an option to purchase an SD card then pay a $60 annual fee to have this feature or it looks as if Sirius has a subscription that includes a navigation feature. Can anyone comment on which navigation option they prefer? Thanks
akirby
I believe you have to have the engine running while you perform Sync updates. Recommended to prevent battery drain avoid the 10 minute shutdown but not an absolute requirement.

Can anyone comment on which navigation option they prefer? Thanks What year? MFT or sync 3? Sync 3 doesn't use sd cards. MFT does but unless the vehicle came with nav from the factory adding the card won't work without replacing the apim. Sirius gives you turn by turn directions instead of a map. Or just use your smartphone for free.
MemphisMike
It's a 2013. I am honestly not sure if its My Ford Touch or Sync 3, but it does have an SD slot in the console.
omar302
2013 has MyFord or MyFord Touch. If you have the small screen (non-touch) then it is Sync with MyFord only, if it is the 8" touch screen then it is MyFord Touch. The subscription nav is a voice turn by turn navigation, the 8" touch screen could also have offline full navigation. What does your 8" screen show in the top right corner? It should be when of these: 1- "Information": then it does not have navigation. 2-"Insert SD Card": Then you need the maps sd card to get NAV working. 3-"Navigation": then you should have NAV working. Its definitely the MyFord Touch and it has "Information" in the top right screen. I assume this means I don't need to worry about getting an SD card? Thanks for your response Omar. akirby
Not as far as the factory navigation is concerned since yours does not have it.

enigma-2
You do have options. You can upgrade to Sync 3 for $1600 or to MyFordTouch WITH navigation for $800. https://www.4dtech.com/products/ford/edge/2013/myford-touch-8/
akirby
Navigation can be enabled. Yes but not easily or cheaply and not factory supported.
omar302
Actually with ForScan factory NAV can be added quite cheaply & easily. Just need to know how to do it. If you're into hacking & modding that is.
chefduane
My '11 Limited has MFT with the 8" screen with nav. I don't have Sirius radio tho. Don't care for it as I don't listen to, nor need, that much content. The previous owner had Sirius and MAN, when they (Sirius) find out that the subscription has expired/lapsed they bug the livin' heck out of you to re-subscribe! Phone calls, email, texts, snail mail, jeez.. leave me alone! If I want your product I'll let you know!!

candurin
Nah. For the cost of.a Bluetooth OBD adapter and the latest maps, you can enable Navigation using ForScan: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21484-success-added-oem-navigation-to-mft-sync2-v38/
omar302
I thought you had to actually swap the apim with one that had factory nav. That was the earlier method. Then they figured out it out. The short version, change as built data to enable NAV, install the NAV application & License/hack, finally, get a maps SD card. Really simple, unfortunately for me, Ford does not have a maps card for the GCC/Middle East! Edit: Didn't see candurin's post above!! he already answered.
