kostyam69
I recently did a Sync 2 to Sync 3 conversion, bought an APIM and Screen on eBay that were pulled from a Ford Fusion and installed into my 2013 Ford Edge. For my APIM programming services I used Dan from Ford Fusion forums, he compiled a file for me and sent it to me for a reasonable fee which I then loaded to Forscan and now everything works 100% as it should. Give him a try if you want, his email is: danmc8510@gmail.com hope this helps you

candurin
And done... programming was a lot easier than I thought.I'll add some pictures and programming steps when I have some time to sit at my desk and do so.Programming was a mix of taking my as built data and taking some from a similarly built 2017 edge (basically everything from 7D0-04-01 onwards is from a new car). When I first did the programming, my speedo was way off! Fixed by adding whee ticks and tire size from a 2017 with 20" wheels.Enjoying car play, although I'm sure I'ld like android auto even more (Waze!). Edit: Use this document to explain what values you need to change in for scan: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uDSQ1Z5a2Wt8-kjrSiVSlDFGFHnfeuhb3RTMVz95730/edit#gid=815852466 Use this site to find your existing vehicle (use VIN number) asbuilt data file *.ab): https://www.motorcraftservice.com/asbuilt When using forscan, enter in all the values for 7D0-01-01 through 7D0-04-02 using your current vehicle asbuilt data (they are all factory values for the SYNC 2 system in your car). Some of these values will be changed using the information found within the F150 (no, it's not specific to that model) document I linked to in order to make your car's SYNC 2 APIM profile more in line with the SYNC 3 requirements (it will make sense when you look at the excel sheet under the APIM tab). The entries you put in for APIM programming under blocks 7D0-05-01 - 7D0-07-04 will have come from a 2016 or 2017 edge (whichever car you choose make sure it has SYNC 3) as the SYNC 2 system did not use these blocks (SYNC 2 stopped at 7D0-04-02). All I did was google 2017 edge for sale and went to any site that let me use filters to find a 2017 edge that was similarly equipped as my 2012. Then I copied that VIN number at the Asbuilt site and put those exact numbers in forscan. Make sure the 2017 you pick has the same size tire as your car or else the speedo will be off. All in all, it was easy to do! Feel free to ask any questions. Edited September 30, 2017 by candurin
candurin
And if it helps, here's what my program looks like (again, make note of 7D0-07-03 which is where your Tire size effects the speedometer): BCE Module APIM 7D0-01-01 222A 0402 610D 7D0-01-02 028B 0004 021F 7D0-02-01 5753 0504 0086 7D0-02-02 0240 8000 00DB 7D0-02-03 0005 DC 7D0-03-01 0000 3502 00DD7D0-04-01 0103 0200 09E27D0-04-02 0001 DE 7D0-05-01 1BA3 1B9B 2B7C 7D0-05-02 C5A3 7D0-06-01 C09E 7D0-07-01 0800 3300 001A 7D0-07-02 0000 186A 0062 7D0-07-03 0056 5686 0013 7D0-07-04 7052
Gortty-Pilot
Candurin, do you have heated seats on your home screen with 2 or levels? And does your IPC navigation work just as well as it did with Sync 2?
candurin
I have two levels (which is my factory "sync 2" setting). When first playing around, I had three set points (only two worked). When I put my OEM asbuilt data in, it went to two levels again. IPC navigation is still there but not using it. I disabled navigation using forscan (the apim I purchased has EU maps and until I can figure out how to get US maps on it, I disabled it). The only thing I wish I sill had was access to USB devices on the IPC. Those have seem to have disappeared..
candurin
I tweaked the program just a bit and in the process, discovered a few things: 7D0-01-01 222X 0002 6Y0D - if you change the X to a 1, the steering controls work. If you change the Y to a 2, you get two heated seat levels)7D0-01-02 008B* 0204 021F *028B w/NAV7D0-02-01 5753 0X04 0086 (Changing the X changes the splash screen, e.g. GT, RS, ST, GT350, Raptor, etc.)7D0-02-02 0200 8804 40DB 7D0-02-03 0005 DC 7D0-03-01 014E 3502 00DD7D0-04-01 0103 0300 09E27D0-04-02 0001 DE 7D0-05-01 1BA3 1B9B 2B7C 7D0-05-02 C5A3 7D0-06-01 009E 7D0-07-01 0800 3300 001A 7D0-07-02 0000 186A 0062 7D0-07-03 0056 5686 0013 7D0-07-04 7052 again, use the F150 database I linked. Gortty-Pilot
So I tried your suggestion Candurun and I did get 2 level heated seats but I also got the option for a heated steering wheel (which I don't have). Is that something you see on your home and climate screens as well?
candurin
I'll check once I get my replacement APIM (I had to put my sync 2 back in temporarily). But, i never had heated steering wheel is played with my program.

Gortty-Pilot
That is odd. . . The same numbers should produce the same result. I wonder if my APIM being from 2017 has anything to do with the diferrence? Well I kept messing with the numbers tonight and the following is what worked for me. It shows the correct heated seat levels (2) and eliminated a rear climate option that showed in the Climate screen. In 7D0-01-01 2221 0002 213F Thanks for help your help Candurin. Even if didn't work exactly for me, it allowed me to focus on one particular number instead of the whole section.
candurin
Maybe change 213F to 223F? APIM year shouldn't matter. Mine is from 2017 as well. Edited October 16, 2017 by candurin
Gortty-Pilot
Candurin, inputing 213F gives me the correct 2-level heated seat options. Changing the "1" to a "2" gives me a 3 level heated/cooled seat option on the homescreen. Its odd, but that is what my APIM displays. I also wanted to provide an update on my Instrument Panel Cluster Navigation issues. Last night I updated to my Sync 3 to v3.0 from an non-official update available on a FocusRS forum. It finished installing and booting this morning and it resolved my cluster problems! I can now actually see more than one option listed under Previous Destinations, Favorites, and POI. The update also resolved a problem I thought I had noticed, but wasn't really sure was occurring. In the Display menu in v2.2, changing the brightness slider never did anything. I always thought, I just wasn't able to see the screen lighten or darken because of the current lighting conditions. After the v3.0 update, I can actually see the brightness decrease and increase in both, the day and night settings. All of my issues are finally resolved! Not that they were major enough to avoid the upgrade to Carplay, especially on a jailbroken iPhone (think Prime Video in motion, Netflix, also Google maps, Waze, and several app options), but the annoyances were frustrating nonetheless. I guess the lesson to learn is that it is completely possible to have an APIM that is functional yet still have faulty software. If you're on the fence about this, the update is still completely worth the hassle.
candurin
Ugh... I wish I could jailbreak my 7 (10.3.1). Not sure why you can't dial in the seats setting. What's your OEM heating/cooling options?
candurin
FYI, version 3.0 (build 17276) is available. http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41251 Just installed on mine and running smoothly. YMMV as this is NOT an official ford release (it is a compilation made by developers using official ford API files). I have no problem trying out builds as you can always roll back to the official v2.2 ford release. That and my Sync 3 isn't exactly "official" either!
The Hobbit
Hi. I am new here and I am looking to do the sync 3 upgrade on my 14 edge. My question is can I buy a unit from a salvage yard that already has sync 3 and what make and models match the edge. I know I need to buy some additional parts and program it for the edge but wasn't sure if this would be a better route then ebay
candurin
That would be a great way to save some money. But, you'll have to program it yourself (very easy to do). You want to try and grab one from a flex, Taurus, explorer or edge. As long as it is a recessed screen (ford versions, the screen part number ends in "-SC), you'll be fine to add your mounting brackets from your existing unit. Here's more info: https://www.4dtech.com/replacement-touchscreen-assembly-for-sync-3/ You can also find some lincolns as well. Just look for the recessed screen. MJ5150
Has anyone tried this upgrade in a 2010 Edge? Of the list of the four version of SYNC, we have #2: SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation. -Mike
enigma-2
Here's a manufacturer that offers a turn-key solution (for a price of course). At least you know that everything will work properly afterwards. https://www.infotainment.com/collections/all/products/myford-touch-sync-2-to-sync-3-upgrade Have you thought about how you're going to get updates, inasmuch as Ford will not supply them to you? Gortty-Pilot
I'm personally not worried about Sync 3 updates. Even when I had MFT, I usually publicly available update links from online forums. I'm more concerned with how map upgrades will occur since there is no longer an SD card slot. Will they be USB updates? will they be tied to a vehicle VIN, because that might affect those of us who did our own upgrade.

The why-update link above is not for the NA market. Even the owner's of legit nav sync3 equipped vehicles are in the dark. Ford states they are working on it but nothing more than that.
