JesseJulie
I see some other posts but no definitive answer. Driver's side rear caliper ate through pads quickly. Replaced pads and rotor Seemed ok for a few days then hung up to the point it was burning up just driving even short distances Replaced caliper and bracket and all seemed well for two days and 300 miles. No added heat. No noise. Now hung up worse than ever total smoking fro rear brake. I am struggling to believe this is mechanical given all new parts and pins worked great. ABS not releasing? Any direction appreciated. I'm at a loss.
akirby
Crack the bleed screw and see if the caliper releases. If it does that would point to the ABS or the brake line itself not releasing pressure. If it doesn't release that would point to the caliper being stuck. Did you bleed the brake line? If so, how? Did you replace the soft brake line to the caliper? Any warning lights on the dash?
JesseJulie
For bleeding I filled the caliper with as much fluid as I could, then quickly moved the line from old to new caliper to limit fluid loss. Then bled by pumping brakes, opening nipple, repeatedly. Did not change soft line. Looks in good shape but will if bleeder opening trick works. Great thought on opening bleeder to determine cause. Deductive sense but hadn't thought about that. No dash lights.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Probably sticking caliper. Often the issue. Might have to end up replacing both sides, so keep an eye out.

David Young
A few years ago my F150 was doing the same thing your Edge is doing. After replacing the caliper with a new 'rebuilt' one, all was well for 2 months then it started hanging up again. I then replaced the rubber brake hose that goes into the caliper with a new one, the old one looked good to me. Brakes have been working perfect, for over 3 years
akirby
That's why I asked. Should be easy and cheap to change it just to be safe.
omar302
Also make sure the notches on the caliper align correctly to the nipples on the pads.
budfrogs
Also make sure the notches on the caliper align correctly to the nipples on the pads. I just replaced the pads on my edge. However, the replacement pads didn't have any nipples on them. No, they are not from Ford either. Will this be an issue? My right rear was sticking and I replaced the caliper and rotors. The hose from the caliper to the chassis is on order so I took for a test drive. Still sticking. The rotor was way too hot! I guess it is parked until I can replace that hose also. IF you replaced the caliper then your issue is up front in the brake master cylinder or the abs control. Or as a last ditch effort check your emergency brake cable and adjust the tension.
