goslats
Daughter is in town and complaining about engine overheating while car not moving. I checked the #39 fuse and it is fine. The fuse has 13v coming in. A/C full blast and neither fan comes on. I don't see a relay in the power distribution box under the hood. Suggestions? Thanks Edited April 1, 2017 by goslats
akirby
It's either the fan or the fan controller. You get both as a replacement kit. Fairly simple DIY job. Dormans are cheap and worked for me but others have had issues. Other aftermarket brands are worse. Motorcraft is the best option. www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/12731-radiator-fan-assembly-replacement-procedure
goslats
I am getting 13v into the controller and 13v out. 2 fans and neither is coming on. Seems one fan would come on and not both at same time. Could it be something besides the fans and controller? If I need to I'll get the kit too akirby, It's about $210 here and the controller itself is nearly that much.
goslats
Ok... I see... I have a fully working 2012 Edge here now and only one fan comes on with the A/C turned on High with temp at normal level. Is there a way to isolate and troubleshoot the problem? akirby
No need since the kit comes with both the fans and controller. Even if it didn't you wouldn't want to change only one.
goslats
I'm trying to determine if the problem may come before the fan and controller kit....? I thought there may be a relay that goes to the 'Controller and Fan' ?
akirby
If one fan is running then the controller is getting power and a signal. I've never heard of a fan failure that wasn't the fan/controller unit.
omar302
Just remember that the fans are different between models with & without the factory towing package. Also models with the towing package have 2 relays instead of one.
macbwt
Replace the fans and it will run great again and not over heat. Maybe a 20 minute job.
goslats
Akirby, the 'one fan running' is on the working vehicle......the problem Edge has no fans running.
akirby
Akirby, the 'one fan running' is on the working vehicle......the problem Edge has no fans running. Sorry about that. You're going to end up replacing the fan/controller. Bite the bullet and follow autom8r's excellent instructions.
goslats
Yep....seems the general consensus is that's where the problem lies. In the controller and fan unit. Thanks.
goslats
Yep, that was it. I put the new one in today and all is well. The guide said it all and was easy to do. Thanks all!
William west
I have a similar problem. It seems that the fan assembly fails on a regular basis is there any insight as to what else it could be?
andyC
I had the same problem-fans not coming on. The fan assembly was changed and it worked for a day or 2, then stopped working. My mechanic ordered a new fan assembly, changed out the controller, and it worked fine. That was 10 days ago. Today, it stopped working again! Pulling my hair out!
