oldham
I am in the process of converting my 10 way power drivers seat to a memory seat. I have done quite a bit of research and am looking into the availability and price of the parts required. I will let you know what I find. oldham
Well, that didn't work out at all. The in-dash wire harness doesn't have the needed wires in it. Too much trouble replacing the harness or adding the wires. The wires are there from the drivers seat to the dash connector. But from the connector leading under the dash. the wires are missing. Now I know why a Ford garage won't touch converting to memory seats. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Waldo
All the stuff that is controlled by the memory is different, the mirror motors are different and the door module is different and programmed completely differently. You'll likely find the entire door wiring harness would need to be replaced as well. As you're finding out, it's a much, much bigger job than it would seem. oldham
It amazes me that Ford would have so many different wire harnesses for different options. no wonder they are so expensive. I would have thought it would be cheaper to use one harness and just tap in to the options used.
enigma-2
Consider the price of copper and the miles and miles of wiring that would go unused ... Price point, they submit an order for specific products, it's the subcontractors the are required to warehouse the product and deliver it on a just-in-time need. As to options, every car Ford builds is a special build, the harness is only a small aspect of the total control. Probably the only standardized component is the steel body shell. After that there's color, options, packages, dealer requests, local regulations .....
Waldo
Weight is also important. Giving away all those wires on the base models makes them weigh more, which can push them into a different weight class for EPA testing, which can result in the entire line having a lower fuel mileage on the window sticker. enigma-2
Wondering how much the wiring weighs on the Edge/MKX ...According to Car & Driver, there's 110 lbs in a modern Bentley. So at least half that in a MKX.
