Keeping wax residue off textured panels...

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this is a hassle virtually everyone here, who's ever waxed their ride, has had to deal with. It doesn't seem to matter how careful I am, I still get some wax on the textured areas and it's a pain in the okole to clean it out.

I finally had a "DUH" moment and realized, it'd much easier, and ultimately quicker, to just mask the panels off. I got a roll of blue painter's tape, ran it along all the edges next to the paint and waxed away.

After buffing the residue off, I pulled the tape and "VIOLA", no ugly white blotches!

Now, this is probably obvious to most folks here, but for the few who, like me, are a little slow, that's my tip.

If you ever get wax on the plastic parts, easiest thing to do is use an old school rubber eraser to get the wax off. My father in law decided to wax my mother in law's cx9 a few years ago because he was bored & ended up waxing EVERY THING. Took me some time, but eventually i was able to remove all the wax residue off all the textured body panels.

Spray 9 (or any other multi-cleaner) and a toothbrush does it for me.

Of course you'll need to put some sort of restoration product on the trim to bring it back to life afterwards. (And get that Spray 9 overspray off any paint ASAP.)

This is why I greatly prefer wash soap WITHOUT wax in it. Because if the textured trim has wax on it that you cannot see (eq. you've used a wax that doesn't stain trim) wash'n'wax soap will magically make it appear!
