27Sport
Since the kids are always on their phones or iPads in the car I decided to install a couple Smart Charging USB outlets using all factory parts that's available in the newer Explorers. I suppose I could have just used adapters in the existing 12V outlets but that's no fun, plus the Smart Charging ones allow a faster charge, especially on the iPad's. I did the 2nd row version on my '15 Edge and simply transferred the whole panel to my '16. That portion required some trimming of the panel to allow the USB mount to fit where the 12V originally was. I decide to install another charging outlet in the front passenger area as I have an iPod continually plugged into one of the radio USB's and my phone plugged into the other. 2nd row outlets Parts needed for charge ports, only 2 wire connections using the existing 12V wires. Stock outlet in front passenger area Parts needed are the same, except I separated the dual USB wires, and used the single mounting plug that's used inside the center console of the '16+ Explorers Need to remove 2 side panels, simply pull out. Power converter tapped into the existing 12V plug Power converter secured inside console Everything put back together, can be put back to stock at any time and took all of 10 min for complete install

dweiss22
I may have missed it in your write up but where did you get the pieces and parts to do this retrofit??
akirby
Those are Ford parts so any Ford dealer. Levittown Ford is a good source.

dweiss22
Would you happen to have part numbers for all the parts or if it comes in a "kit"??
enigma-2
Would some to like this work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019OSX8UC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487992295&sr=8-2&refinements=p_89%3AAUKEY&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=car+charger
dweiss22
It would for sure but I really liked the OEM look of what akirby did. Looks factory and that is what I'm looking for, just having a hard time getting the correct Ford part numbers. The dealers parts desk suck so I'm forced to research it it on my own. akirby
That was 27Sport, not me. Try fordparts.com to find the parts and check with Benny at Levittown Ford - he'll help you out.

27Sport
Would you happen to have part numbers for all the parts or if it comes in a "kit"?? Dual USB cable JL1T-14D202-GA Dual outlet cover FB53-045N67-A ('16+ Explorer rear of console) Single outlet cover FB53-R045N22-A ('16+ Explorer inside center console) Power inverter GU5T-19J211-AA Wiring connector for inverter WPT-982 (6U2Z-14S411-JB) Only the 2 outer wires are used for power and ground. See pic above for power (yellow) and ground (black) as the service parts may have all the same color wires. I got most of my parts on ebay so the outlet cover part numbers might be engineering numbers, but the dealer should be able to cross reference the service numbers.
dweiss22
27Sport thank you very much. It will definitely give me a starting point on getting these parts. Awesome job and thanks again. DW
waterpro
Resurrecting an older thread here, but I wanted something similar. I have a 2017 Titanium Edge and I found that this usb car plug (below) worked perfectly and only costs $10 with no modification to the car. https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Charger-Output-iPhone-Samsung/dp/B00M6QODH2 It fits into the front passenger and center compartment flush and the stock cover will close with the caveat that the door flap does catch on the edge of the USB plug. I remedied this but taking a knife and shaving a flat edge on the USB plug that faced the door hinge. Once I trimmed that up, it fits flush and the usb door closes perfectly. It's worth noting that the second row charging cover is a little bit bigger than the front passenger and center console so no trimming was necessary and the flap closes perfectly without any modification. I like this because it looks like the usb chargers are oem, the doors close all the way, and if I need to use something else in the adapter I can still remove the usb plug and plug something else in instead. It's worth noting this one above will charge up to 2.4 amps for each port, which is faster than the 2.0 amp smart plugs that come with the car but are slower than the power IQ and Quick Charge 3.0 standards. If you want a quick charge 3.0 capable port though to charge at 3 amps, Aukey also makes this guy (below). It has the same dimensional size as the one above that I have except that it's a single port 3.0 Quick charger. So you should be able to plug it in and still close the doors. https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Charger-Charge-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B01KZHKF4I I also purchased a few LED usb plugs, because I liked the blue glow at night, that were supposed to be flush mount by Torras and Ainope and neither one of them actually fits flush. They're about 1/10th of an inch larger than the ones above and they both stick out so you can't close the doors (even the larger second row plug won't close). Anyway, if someone wants a stock look without taking the car apart, the above should help.

ravishingrocket
I found the part number for the dual usb outlet. FB5Z-19A495-AA
ravishingrocket
I found the part number for the dual usb outlet. FB5Z-19A495-AA I puchased this and the outlet is far too big to fit the front passenger spot on my 2013 Edge. Maybe the space is a little bit bigger in the 2015+ Edge? It does appear it will fit the rear of the center console for the 2nd row. I will posts pics when i get around to installing
