SuperDutyEdge
I'm sure this has probably been discussed a million times or more, but my search came up inconclusive. I have an 07 SEL AWD loaded with all options except Bluetooth, since we acquired this thing last summer, the Nav system works intermittently, it will work for awhile some days, but other days it wants nothing to do with working. I have bought and tried a new disc with no improvement. So, my question is, since I assume I have to replace the head unit completely, can I upgrade to a newer OEM system? Is it plug and play? What kind of modifications need to be made for the upgrade? Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the DVD version of the nav system. enigma-2
This service repairs your existing radio http://m.ebay.com/itm/152426688204?_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20150313114020&meid=438a278505f1474da7adcd24be3d8a09&pid=100338&rk=9&rkt=30&sd=301940286504&_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_mwBanner=1 Ā Ā Probably would be better off going to an aftermarket unit and get all the latest features such as Apple Carplay, navigation, bluetooth, etc. Ā http://www.connectedcarlife.com/upgrade-your-car-with-today-s-technology Ā Crutchfield has a lot of good information on adapting aftermarket units, amps and speakers to the Edge: Ā https://www.crutchfield.com/S-AkrtVdhvrln/carsystems/Ford-Edge-Stereos-and-Speakers.html Ā If your looking to add bluetooth to your existing system, try here: Ā http://www.installer.com/cars/by_car.php?carid=6417 Ā Ā As for adapting an 2009 head unit, probably would get too involved and for the money you would probably be better off going with a good Pioneer unit. Brucifer
Your best bet is to install an aftermarket system. You would be able to have just about any feature you want, plus wire in a rear camera at the same time. I have a 2007 also and wanted a back up camera, but the newer head units are not the same as ours. Ā The only real issue is cost of replacing the unit with another used one (and what warranties may come with that) vs. a similarly equiped new one. Can't suggest what to replace it with, but someone might chime in. PaulSchott
I installed this Jensen head unit from Crutchfield Has a backup camera hookup and steering wheel controls available as options. I believe they have updated it since.

enigma-2
Sounds great, what unit did you decide on? Have you considered getting better speakers or does it sound ok with oem?
