Need APIM help please

So, long story short, the APIM in my wifes 2011 ford Edge SEL. After taking it to the dealer, them having the car for 2 weeks, getting the run-around, many, many, MANY headaches, I have decided to fix it myself. I called ford to get the partn number for the APIM and this is where I'm at right now.

The part number Ford gave me: BT4Z 14D212 BA

The part number I can find: BT4T 14D212 AA - AG, AK, AJ, AN

Who here has replaced their APIM and what part number did you use to replace it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, they don't call it the APIM, they call it "voice recognition, sync module"

I am also interested in this thread. My Edge is a 2011 Sport (w/ Nav) and the 5 year extended warranty on the APIM is expired. I have the Black Screen of Death and I believe the APIM has died. I have tried pulling fuse 29 and removing the negative terminal of the battery. I tried both overnight, but the screen is still black. When I pulled the negative terminal and put it back the next morning, the radio stayed on for approximately 50 seconds and then turned off.

My DIY question is: Is it possible to buy the APIM (w/ Nav), remove the dead APIM and replace/reprogram the new APIM?

I do not know if circuitboardmedics can repair an apim but it may be worth a shot to call them and ask some questions they are doing a bang up job on the PCM's so nothing lost by calling them and asking if they can repair the old APIM. You can remove the old APIM and install the new one to save some labor but you may still have to go to Ford dealer to have the programing installed due to Ford holding the programing under so much security the Russians can not even get it. LOL

It is in "layer 3" of the system if you have the 8 inch screen. Behind the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) which is behind the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM).

FCIM

Removal and Installation

All vehicles

  1. Remove the LH and RH floor console upper finish moulding. For additional information, refer to the floor console exploded view in Section 501-12 .

Edge

  1. Place the transmission selector lever in neutral.
  1. NOTE: The floor console selector lever panel does not need to be removed.

Remove the 4 screws, detach the 2 clips and position the floor console selector lever trim panel back.
  1. Remove the 6 Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) screws and remove the FCIM .
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  2. Remove the 4 screws and remove the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM). You may need to recalibrate once reinstalled.
  • Disconnect the two electrical connectors.

Vehicles with 8 inch screen

  1. Remove the 4 screws and remove the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) from the FDIM .
    • To install, tighten to 0.6 Nm (5 lb-in).

If you have the 4.2 inch screen, it is a little easier

Vehicles with 4.2 inch screen

  1. Remove the front floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 .
  1. Remove the floor console rear trim panel.
  1. Remove the 5 screws and the remove floor console HVAC duct.
  1. Remove the 3 screws and remove the APIM from the mounting bracket.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    • To install, tighten to 0.6 Nm (5 lb-in).

Once the new APIM is installed, you have to recalibrate it.

All vehicles

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Ask Benny :) Once he has your Edge's VIN number should be pretty straightforward.

Who is benny...? Sorry, I am new here.

My VIN is: 2FMDK3JC7BBB11440

The part number is: BT4T-14D212-BM (part # on the APIM I removed yesterday evening)

I'm looking around online for a used one ($500+ for a new one is a little out of my price range right now) but cant find this part number.

Right now, im just curious what other members experiences with replacing the APIM are with getting a used one.

I was told that as long as the "14D212" is the same, then I will be able to have ford reprogram it to my vehicle. Can anyone confirm this is true for me please?

Also, Thanks for your reply's, they have been helpful to say the least.

Sweet, thanks. I will monitor the thread as well as this on. thanks again.

I decided to contact Circuitboardmedics and they are willing to look at your APIM on your 2011+ Ford Edge. The deal is all you have to do is pay shipping for them to perform and engineering analysis. 2. If they can not repair it no charge to you. 3. You pay shipping for return. 4. If they repair it you pay for the repair and if the repair does not result in a functioning APIM and they can not repair it. You will be refunded your money back. Based on their PCM repairs fees this is a much cheaper alternative to buying a new APIM.

Hello,

Based off of that VIN the service part number you need is BT4Z 14D212BA but we do not offer this for sale online as it needs to be ordered through your dealers exchange program.

There have been a few revisions from the original part number in this sequence:

BT4Z 14D212AD

BT4Z 14D212AE

BT4Z 14D212AF

BT4Z 14D212BA - Latest

Benny:

Thanks for the help. My vehicle was approximately 8 days past the extended warranty program when my issue began. It worked off and on untill about 2 weeks ago. They did refuse to help me back in march and wont do anything for me now unless I shell out the $1000 for them to fix it.

I'm leaning more towards taking my chances with getting a used one from a junk yard.

Thanks for your help Benny

Thanks again.

Good day I purchased a 2011 Edge on August 5th.....on August 13th, I had a black screen, no Navigation/radio/CD....nothing!!! I wish I would have done my research before I purchase this vehicle. The dealer wants $1,067.00 to replace the APIM.....I just paid $10,000 for the vehicle. The warranty expired 1/2016. Opened a case with Ford Customer Service, they rejected any monetary assistance. I am really upset.

These things happen, no one's fault and Ford certainty has no responsibility to provide you with monetary assistance.

You can easily pull the radio, send it off to these folks & get it repaired for ~$300.

Or buy a used APIM and get it programmed by the dealer to match your vehicle (If that's possible).

I think that "thatqtpie" acctually meant the ACM and not the APIM. The ACM is the audio control unit (I think it also includes the AN/FM, CD/DVD, navigation and amp), and the APIM is the separate Sync module. He could probably pick up a used unit on Ebay, cheap.

Good day Everyone thank you for your responses......the dealer stated that the "APIM" was bad and that it needed to be replaced. My screen is blank. I have also tried the master reset and still nothing. Thank you enigma-2...I have reached out to nav repair and waiting for a response. My dash says "audio off" phone says "see touchscreen" navi has the compass and climate "works". I really appreciate all of your responses. I just want my system back.
