hill392
Hello, Can the motor be removed from the top of the car or does it have to come out from the bottom? Thanks. Edited January 14, 2017 by hill392
macbwt
Top. Much easier to remove if you remove the entire front end radiator, condenser, frame, bumper cover etc. plenty of room to work and pull it out.
hill392
Thanks for the reply. I may do that. Just trying to gather information before I start. I guess some people remove the sub frame and drop it from the bottom. The salvage yard checked their manual and said top also.
hill392
Can the transmission be left in place?. I've never pulled a front wheel drive motor before.
macbwt
Can the transmission be left in place?. I've never pulled a front wheel drive motor before. I believe you will discover the tolerances to remove just the engine are too tight.
IWRBB
If you have a lift, I'd definitely take it out the bottom. Leave the subframe, suspension, trans, etc all intact and raise the body off of them.
hill392
From everything I'm reading, taking it out the bottom is the preferred method. I don't have a vehicle lift. Looks like I'll have to Jack the vehicle up until I have enough clearance to get the motor out. Another member has a post on doing it this way.
IWRBB
No chance of dropping the engine on the radiator support that way either!
