gjb89
Road noise as in tires?
eddyecpowell
I suspect the tires since the vehicle is new. It feels like eighter a balance or alignment issue
gjb89
My alignment was all out of wack when we purchased ours new. Tell them your steering wheel is crooked and you want it fixed. If you put too many mikes on it they will not cover the alignment, atleast that's what my dealership said.
eddyecpowell
I'm going to call Monday. Just don't know why they have to give you such a hard time to just check the alignment!
gjb89
You can take it to another dealership too.

eddyecpowell
I'll try one more time. Don't know why it's such a big deal to put it on the machine. The numbers will prove themselves. Just don't feel like arguing for two hours!!!

I told them my steering wheel wasn't straight so it forced them to do an alignment. Low and behold there were all sorts of issues they had to correct (mainly the toe setting).
omar302
You can also ask to test drive another 2016 Edge (with the same wheel size) to confirm that your Edge really has an issue.
eddyecpowell
That's a good idea too! Thanks for the ideas!!!
eddyecpowell
Had a family member drive the car, and found no issues. Said it's the tires, they are just cheap tires. Also read reviews on the Pirelli scorpions, and they all talked about excessive road noise. I went back to the Ford dealership today and they gave me a really hard time. I decided to just replace the tires. Really irritated to have to by new tires for a car with only 1400 miles. the road noise is just driving me crazy!!!! Cheap fix if that's all it was compared to buying all new tires! What kind did you end up getting?
akirby
Balancing doesn't normally fix noise. You should be able to sell them pretty easily.
Burrcold
Balancing doesn't normally fix noise. You should be able to sell them pretty easily.Unbalanced tires can definitely cause a humming noise at higher speed, I've experienced it myself. The OP also said there was slight shaking in the steering wheel which is definitely a sign of unbalanced tires. Even if they were bad tires, it's a cheap check before going out and buying a whole new set. But hey, to each their own.
akirby
In that case I agree it would be wise to have them balanced first. I missed the steering wheel shake.
eddyecpowell
I did have them balanced, also had them check the alignment. One tire was out of balance, but did not solve the problem. I then checked the reviews on the pirelli scorpion verde all season, and they described my exact problem. Decided on Michelin premier gtx. They should be in in a couple of days. I have heard really good things about these tires. I had Michelin tires on my last Edge, and it drove really nice!

I've got 6k miles on mine and have what sounds like tire noise. The dealer said they can find nothing mechanically wrong. I drove one on the lot with the same mileage and it had the same noise. My noise wasn't there a month ago. Did the new tires fix your problem? What were your original tires and what did you replace them with? Mgavin1985
Could be tie rod issue. If too much play in tierod you will be bad vibration on highway starting around 35mph and will get worse as mph go up. It's good that u start with tire balancing because of price and then work way through suspension. If not that jack one corner of your Edge up and tire to see if there is any play in wheel if so I may have ball bearing issue. Both tie rod and bearing issue are a couple hundred to fix at garage
Mgavin1985
Only 6k on it nothing should be worn??? Hopefully not a lemon good luck with the fix
Mgavin1985
Also maybe do wheel alignment or have local tire shop instead of dealer do alingment maybe dealer is giving u run around because they think only 6000k nothing wrong and trying to get u out the door.
eddyecpowell
I have had the wheels balanced, replaced the tires with Michelin's, had the car 's alignment checked and still get a noise at around 40-45 mph. I'm going to take it back to the dealership soon for first oil change and have the technician drive with me. It's not a loud noise, so not sure if they will hear it. It's just really annoying, and I do not want to ruin new tires. I keep checking other forums to see if anyone is having the same issue. Cannot believe it would be transmission related in a new car?
