Watrat
Good afternoon, My first post but long time follower of the board. Have been having an issue with text message notification on my 2016 ford edge sync 3 version 1. Using an iPhone with software version 10.1.1. I am not sure if it is an iPhone issue or a sync 3 issue but there will be times I get alerted to text messages on screen and other times nothing happens. I can do a hard reset of the phone and that gets it to work for awhile..until it happens again. The phone itself works fine over bluetooth so I know its still connected. I have toggled off bluetooth notifications on the phone and toggled them back on. I am trying to remember if this was as much of an issue before the iPhone update to 10.1.1 or not but its definitely an issue now. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and where the issue may lay. Could the soon to be update to 10.2 rectify this issue or is that not one of the issues being addressed? Thanks for reading

akirby
I've noticed that if you are on the messages screen on the phone already that it will not announce new messages. Same as if you're using the phone directly - it doesn't give you the new message alert while you're texting someone.
Watrat
I've noticed that if you are on the messages screen on the phone already that it will not announce new messages. Same as if you're using the phone directly - it doesn't give you the new message alert while you're texting someone. This happens as I am driving and not using the phone. Not sure if it's relevant but I notice this more when my touch screen is on the home settings (nav, music, and phone all showing in thirds) as opposed to just leaving it on the music tab. Once I miss a notification, and don't notice my phone lighting up, it will continue not working until I shut the car off and or do a phone reboot
akirby
Next time it happens, check the phone and see if it shows new messages on the Messages Icon. If it does and notifications are turned on but you don't get the notification in sync 3 then it would point to a sync 3 problem. Are you on the latest IOS release? Good afternoon, Apple released a new software update this afternoon that I will install when I get home tonight. When the sync 3 doesn't show a new message alert my phone does..it still lights up and shows a new message across its screen.
FordIVTteam
Watrat, After the update, make sure you toggle SHOW NOTIFICATIONS and BLUETOOTH off then on. Let me know if the update corrects the issue. Shaay

Let me know if the update corrects the issue. Shaay Good afternoon. I thought things had improved post iOS update but it started happening again today. I had toggled everything off...even hit forget this device and set it up as new. The one thing I did do differently this time..as I was out on the road and the notifications stopped I was at a red light and shut the car off and opened the driver door so radio shut off. Closed the door and restarted the car and notifications started working again. Not sure if that adjusted anything or if it was just a coincidence. commbubba19
I had this issue as well. For some reason the phone would pair via BT but when i selected messages from the settings screen in SYNC, it would state that no messages could be retrieved. I can't remember if I posted this on the site or not. All other functions, phone, contacts, etc worked but new messages received would never show up on SYNC. I ended up deleting my phone from SYNC and SYNC from my phone and re-did the whole BT sync process. Since then it's been fine.
Ray Heath Jr
Ray Heath Jr, Were you having an issue with the text message feature as well? Cara No I was saying that the comment was dead on. You have to click the show notifications under the Sync Bluetooth Connection.
FordIVTteam
I do. Sometimes it works for awhile and other times not at all. As commbubba19 stated, I suggest pairing your phone again. Also, what happens if you try to go to messages manually on SYNC? No I was saying that the comment was dead on. You have to click the show notifications under the Sync Bluetooth Connection. Ray Heath Jr, That's great to hear! Don't hesitate to reach out if you require assistance in the future. Watrat
As commbubba19 stated, I suggest pairing your phone again. Also, what happens if you try to go to messages manually on SYNC? Good afternoon. I have deleted the phone from sync and repaired. Same thing happens. It works some of the time but not reliably. When it doesn't work it seems to come back on after I shut car off and sync shuts down. How do you mean go to messages manually on sync? pnewby
I was getting the text alert on Sync 2 and Snyc 3 until I upgraded to a 7 plus. Since then no texts. All settings are as mentioned above. seems I remember akirby giving advice about a setting when I had the problem on the old phone, but can't remember what that was. akirby
Go to the Sync bluetooth connection on your iphone and click on it (I forgot if there is an icon to click or you just click the name). You should see an options for Notifications - turn it back on. You might need to stop and restart the vehicle and/or re-pair the phone.

pnewby
Thanks to all, akirby's post gave my memory a kick start. I'm looking at the article posted above now. My Edge is in another state but my Explorer is with me in Florida. On another matter, my 5 year subscription to travel link disappeared after 6 months when I started paying for the Sirius radio. My calls to Sirius had no luck in getting Travel Link restored and I was told to contact the dealer. So far the dealer has had no luck. It is a 2016 Edge Sport purchased in June 2016 with all options except the console safe. Any suggestions?

According to their brochure, the 5 year subscription may be available with the navigation system: http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/innovations/landing/pdf/ford_gbi.pdf However, I'm unable to activate the subscription. pnewby
My dealer in Ky contacted Sirius/XM and had the service reinstated. Sirius stuck to it's claim that they had to have the dealer fix it. If I had not continued the radio service after 6 months it would have not been a problem with travel link. Guess I confused them. I now have 5 years from the delivery date.
