Titan01
Looking at purchasing an extended warranty for peace of mind... I have a quote from Lombard for 6years/100K for the Premium Care Package that I think is fair, especially when comparing with 3rd parties like Charchex. I have looked at other Ford ESP Dealers the only less than Lombard seems to be Flood but they don't offer the 0% financing which is attractive. A few questions - Has anyone purchased an ESP from Lombard any comments? Does anyone have other suggestions other than Lombard, Flood, Champion, Ziegler? Thank you in advance, Titan01
davidceder
I have purchased from Lombard, either for my 08 Expedition or my 13 Super Duty, I forget which. My dealer could not come close to their pricing. Was easy to purchase. I think I needed to take a pic of the odometer to satisfy them. I am also looking at flood for my 16 Sport. If you find it cheaper than flood, please post.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Hopefully a one off incident, but it was reported that when the user went price shopping, the Flood Ford rep was testy with them.
FloridaMatt
Back when I owned a Cadillac XLR, I purchased a protection plan from Costco, which was reselling the premium plan from Century Warranty. Several would-have-been-expensive repairs were done over the next few years. My dealer said they were easy to work with, unlike some other companies.

Their site looks a bit second rate compared to Lombard, although low overhead may allow the lower cost.
t0lkman
Why not to buy extended warranty from Ford? Why third party?
Titan01
Why not to buy extended warranty from Ford? Why third party? Actually I was referring to a Ford Premium Care ESP from Flood Ford. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
akirby
Third party is very very risky. Ford ESP is the only safe way to go.
enigma-2
Third party is very very risky. Ford ESP is the only safe way to go.What risk? There's no risk. You give them your money and they deny all claims. No risk at all.1

Tacyon
I can echo the 3rd party risk message. Ford Premium Care ESP is the only way to go. What happens often with the 3rd party carriers is that they state we "cover almost everything". "Almost" is their "out".Problem is they can't tell you what is NOT covered until you submit a part number. This means the service often has to make many calls to try to get you covered vs Ford Premium Care ESP, they input a number and know if its covered. 24x7 AFAIK. When "X" part is entered into their system you find its covered. But just 80% of it or possibly not at all. ("Almost") Diagnostics are not covered usually. Generally they're open M-F, 9am to 5PM. So you're on a trip and need service on a saturday. Unless you sign off on all repair costs, you're waiting till monday morning for them to open. (disclaimer - this is my "informed" opinion, this may not be reflective of all "3rd party carriers" these points may or may not all apply to any one single carrier)
t0lkman
By the way, should I buy the extended warranty within the first year? or wait till standard warranty ends? and buy on 35th month?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
It's only a minor cost change towards the end, so you can wait if you want to. Definitely get it BEFORE the original warranty expires (3/36, time OR mileage, not just time) and you don't have to have it inspected IIRC. enigma-2
By the way, should I buy the extended warranty within the first year? or wait till standard warranty ends? and buy on 35th month? From my own experience in the past, the contract costs more after the first year. I would give the business manager at your local dealer a call and talk with him (or her) about the cost; both now and later.
davidceder
I think the up charge after the first year is $100.00.

t0lkman
if only $100, I will just wait... who knows maybe I will sell or trade in the car in 2 years? Also, I remember there was a website where one can buy Ford extended warranty cheaper than in a local dealer...

Titan01
Interesting enough I shopped all the sites on the web and found what I thought was the best deal. Before I pulled the trigger I called the dealership where I purchased and talked to my sales guy, wanted to give them on last shot. We discussed this during the sales process as well as with the F&I guy but the price wasn't right. I received a call back about 10 mins later and was offered a premium package with the same features as I priced on the web for $125 less than my best quote. I was honestly surprised and impressed. I guess the morale of the story give your dealer a chance to earn your business, you may be surprised.
