Can't play audio from my iPod anymore?

Recommended Posts

2014 Edge Limited with Sony Premium Stereo. I purchased this Edge new and never had a problem playing music and Podcasts from my iPod until now 2.5 years later.

I confirmed the iPod works fine in my speaker dock in my work shop, but when I connect it to my Edge I can't get it to play anything. What's interesting is that once I connect it to my Edge, it sync's and recognizes it and in fact my whole library of music and podcasts is available on the screen in my car. I will pick a song to play or a Podcast to listen too and it shows that item on the screen but simply will not play it. I can fast forward to the next song etc and it shows the new song on the display but again won't play it. It's as if it's on pause, but pushing the play/pause button does nothing and the timer shows 00:00 and stays there.

I even tried verbally commanding it to play a new title, and sure enough that title on the screen switched to the one I asked for but it just sits at 00:00 and won't play it. It used to just play it automatically. Even just connecting my iPod, it would play automatically.

For the hec of it I tried a master reset of the system in the car setting, but it made no difference. I also tried a different cable from the iPod to the usb port, and I have tried both usb ports inside the console, but it still does the same thing and just sort of hangs there not playing anything. CD works fine as does the radio and all controls.

Anybody else have an issue like this, or have any other ideas for me?

Hey Uncoiler,

What type of iPod is it? Also, have you verified that the SYNC software is up to date: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html

It might be an iPod Nano but I don't remember for sure, and it just says iPod on it. I could see a software problem if it never worked or if this was a new device, but this iPod has worked perfect everyday since Mar 2014 when I bought the vehicle new. It just stopped working one day earlier this week. Could that still be a software issue? I'm not sure I understand. How does it work one day, then the next day it doesn't.

FWIW I went to the link you provided and it says my Sync is up to date and has my VIN etc so I know it's the right vehicle. To be honest though it's never been updated since the Edge was new, so it must have had, and still does have the most up to date software. Does that sound right?

That was it akirby.

I didn't even know you could do a reboot/reset on an iPod, in fact I've had this one for 5 years and have never had to do a reset. Also it works perfectly fine on the other platforms I play it on in the house, work, and my work shop. Also it updates and erases perfectly automatically too.

Anyway I went online to see which iPod this is exactly, then how to do a reset, then plugged it into my Edge and it plays fine again.

Had you not asked me about that, I don't think I would have solved this. Thank you very much!!! :worship:
