Suzanne Vogt Kesel
I have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL 3.5L with about 49,000 miles. About 6 weeks ago, all of a sudden, I started hearing a loud squeaking/squealing noise coming from possibly the undercarriage. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. It squeaks when I'm going slow, sometimes when I'm going fast, around corners, going straight, sometimes it's first thing in the morning, other times it's after I've driven for a while.. The only thing I've noticed is that it stops when I apply the brakes. It's so loud, people turn their heads when I'm driving down the street. I've had it had 2 dealerships. First time they replaced all the brakes pads, rotors, etc. 2nd time they took all the tires off and on and checked all the belts & chassis and found nothing wrong. Of course, every time they take it for a test drive, it doesn't squeak! It's driving me crazy... HELP!
akirby
A good shop will have chassis ears to help isolate it if you can reproduce it for them. Otherwise sway bar bushings would be my first guess.
fishx65
Since the sound stops every time you apply the brakes I would assume it has something to do with the brakes. I know they replaced the pads and rotors but you could have a sticky caliper piston. Also a chance the new pads don't have the proper backing on them.
omar302
MACT once made a video about Low Frequency Dampers on the rear brakes, could also be an issue. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/18253-low-frequency-damper-removal-and-installation-with-pin-kits/
