akirby
How much did it reduce the light output?
gjb89
I would imagine quite a bit. They look pretty dark.
akirby
I would imagine quite a bit. They look pretty dark. I was trying to say it nicely, but that was my point. I've seen cars with dark tinted tails where you literally could not see the brake lights in the daytime and barely see them at night. Im curious if he used VHT or a film.
akirby
Are the brake bulbs LEDs?
gjb89
All the bulbs in the fixture are replaceable leds unless you go in and solder in some new ones.
akirby
So those should be brighter than standard bulbs.
gjb89
I wouldn't say they are any brighter then a modern incandescent taillight except for the reverse lights, those are significantly brighter then the ones I have in my F150. specialk4523
Actually light output was not lost. You can see very clear in the day n night.. They used a film.
specialk4523
It definitely gives it a sportier look.

There has to be some loss of light output unless you added more bulbs or switched to brighter bulbs. It may not be significant if the OEM lights are bright enough to start with. gjb89
I'm putting some very light tinting on tonight. Hoping it won't reduce the light output as much.

Orlydose
Does anyone here know if the SE model is supposed to have the red led lights on the lift gate? My 16 only has the outside lights turn on and I'm wondering if I need to take it in... thanks
Burrcold
No it's not. Only the Titanium and Sport get the "light bar".
commbubba19
I used Lamin-x's lightest tint. IMG_5125.JPG Did you just get a general sheet of their tint? What size?
IWRBB
Everyone freaks out about tinting lights, and i's obvious it can be taken too far- but Ford went from a clear headlight to a tinted headlight on the 99-04 Mustangs. Same lamp, same housing, but they used a tinted lens. If it's a reasonable amount of tint, it really makes no noticeable difference with the lights on. True but so many people go overboard and you can't see the damn brake lights in the daytime. Also - when the factory does it they must pass DOT tests for visibility so they know for sure they're ok. When you DIY you don't typically have those measurements.

Laurlaur576
Now, all you have to do is plasti dip the lettering. Then you're good to go.
