dwwall
Has anyone heard when 2016 model Sync 3 will be updated to support Android Auto? Last I heard, it was supposed to be out by end of summer.
James Costa
The latest update from Ford IVT rep said by end of year.
oleg6662
I have AA on my 2016.
jmr061
Later production 16s (roughly sometime in July) began shipping with software v2.0 which contains AA and CarPlay. So if you don't have one of those you are at the mercy of Ford's official software update release which as mentioned before is said to be before the end of the year. Keep in mind that have pushed back the release date estimate at least once, maybe more.

Ā It is strange that it is shipping on later 2016 models, but we can't get it for download for earlier 2016 models. To be sure, they didn't change the hardware mid year. jmr061
The current 2.0 APIM is a different hardware part number than the 1.0 version.
dwwall
The current 2.0 APIM is a different hardware part number than the 1.0 version. Interesting. Does that mean the later builds of the 2016 Edge have Sync Connect then? I thought that would wait for the 2017 models.
jmr061
No...Connect is additional hardware separate from the APIM.
Tjm623
Yea connect is actually a little black box actually looks like a mini amp. In my wife's 17 escape it is under cargo floor inside the passenger styrofoam cubby. Ā I'm actually now excited for AA as this latest iPhone release has me going back to Android until Apple decides to be innovative in a good way again *cough no 3.5mm jack cough*
briang8510
Hi all, I have an early 2016 Ford Edge sport (with the original APIM) and just came across someone in a Focus RS forum who posted the Sync 3 version 2 update (v2.2)! So far everything seems to be working fine after the update and I can verify that I have Android Auto working on it right now!! Unfortunately I don't have an iPhone to test it with but it does look like you do have to replace the USB hub to get it to work for Apple Car Play (hopefully the dealerships will do this free of cost, but who knows..). My only gripe is that I thought it was supposed to work via Bluetooth on Android devices, but in my 10 minutes of playing with it I could only get it to work via USB. Let me know if anyone has any luck getting it to work without plugging it in.. Anyway for anyone else who wants to give it a shot here is the link: Ā http://www.focusrs.org/forum/30-focus-rs-electronics/40570-unofficial-update-sync3-v2-2-android-auto-apple-car-play.html#/topics/40570?_k=6r3818 Ā Best of luck! akirby
Both AA and CPMrequire hardwires at this time.
Ray Heath Jr
Both AA and CPMrequire hardwires at this time. Nope! AA requires only the software update. CP requires the upgraded hub on 15's and most 16's. Both require USB connection to work. Ā See this thread...it is JMR01 that built the files that BrianG is referencing above. Ā http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21394-sync-3-and-carplayandroid-auto-information/ Ā There are several Mirrors in the thread. akirby
HardWIRE not hardware. Both must be connected via USB - it doesn't work via bluetooth only.
jmr061
Correct I released it here first and then the F150 forum. Because of the large number of members on the F150 it took off like wild fire there and spread to many other forums. Its being hosted via multiple download locations.

Clarity is good, because there seems to be A LOT of bad info flying around.
