Newless
Hey folks. I just got a bluedriver last night. Ran some scans and found a p0480. Cooling fan 1 circuit. No check engine light one. But looking under the hood I see the drivers side fan is not running, in hot weather, with the A/C on. Anyone else deal with this problem? I have seen some fixes involving the a/c selector switch, but im not sure how to test that switch. Thx! Ill post fix when I figure it out but looking for direction. akirby
You have to replace the fans and controller module. Very common problem. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/12731-radiator-fan-assembly-replacement-procedure/page-4?hl=%20cooling%20%20fan Post 62 has a video.

akirby
Note that the generic brands like Dorman have not worked for some people. I used a Dorman and it worked fine but we traded the vehicle soon after. Others have not gotten them to work at all and ended up buying the motorcraft version.

You will be happier.
enigma-2
I had my 09 fans replaced in late August. Covered under the extended warranty but the told me the bill would have been between $700 & $800. (However they also evacuated the ac and recharged as the high side was a little low, told me it was common to lose a little refrigerant over the years). So probably closer to the $700 figure at a ford dealer.
Newless
Ok so this is what happened today. First I called the Ford dealer for the Motorcraft unit. Here in Canada it's $739 after tax. So Im about to order it off of RockAuto. This morning I decided to test power and ground to the fans. I take out the airbox and remove two of the connectors and both are getting power and ground. So I figure its the fan itself. Put it all back together and suddenly the drivers side fan is working again! I have been driving it and let it sit in the driveway, so far so good. I have heard of another owner having the same thing happen. Thoughts??
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Maybe it was just the connections. But I'd be prepared to find a replacement fan assembly anyway, just in case.
Newless
Ill keep this updated and let people know if in the short term it does stop working again.
Newless
So here is an udate for people with the same problem. My drivers side fan has stopped again. But can be made to work again by shaking the wires or tapping the motor with a wrench. So the new fan system is ordered. $350 with rockauto. Let you know how things go.
