Security/welcome/entry/puddle lights?

Recommended Posts

On the 2016 Edge Titanium, does it come with:

security/welcome lights? (The best I can describe is what the Hyundai/Kia have where it "senses" the keyfob and illuminates LED lighting in the door handles).

The Ford site is vague (IMO) on details.

Entry lights? (i'm assuming these are the illuminated scuff panel thingies)

Puddle lights?

I thought I'd read/seen somewhere that the Edge has lights also on the side mirrors that shines down.

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Approach lighting is only on the Lincoln models.

The PDF brochure (finally found it) has listed:

security approach lamps

As part of the heated side mirrors.

Looks like it's on SEL and Titanium (didn't check the Sport)

Interesting though that they consider those puddle lamps as well.

I think it's naming convention. Ford has referred to these as puddle lamps for as long as I can recall. My '98 explorer had "puddle lamps". They serve the purpose of what you would call "security approach lights" by lighting the ground near the front doors when the key fob is pressed.

They are standard on SEL-up including the sport.

On the Edge they only light up when the fob button is pressed. On the MKX they light up automatically when it senses the fob near the car and it also illuminates the door handles which is what was originally asked.

Last two sentences of OPs post described puddle lamps. Which is what I want describing and was asked as well

But this is what he described first.

Sorry - I thought he was asking if the proximity lights were called puddle lamps. I was just trying to clarify the difference between the puddle lamps on the edge which only light up when the fob is pressed and the Lincoln approach lighting which is a proximity sensor and also includes the door handles.

My bad, I muddied the waters.

I always thought puddle lamps were like on the sides (near door bottoms) or something. So I thought they were different.

However, I do suppose one could use puddle lamps (if they're near door bottoms) as a "security" light (ie, you approach vehicle, or you push button on key fob).

So, as I now understand it:

Ford Edge Titanium has some sort of lamps that you MANUALLY make light up as you "approach" the car. However, it's not an automatic sensing thingy.

The lights that DO light up when pressed are actually on the bottom side of the side mirrors, and obviously shine down, and therefore are also "puddle" lamps.

Is that right?

What about any lights on the door handles themselves? (I'll check tomorrow and Saturday when I do my 2 test drives at 2 diff. dealers, but only one has the 302A package).

I guess puddle lamps could be anywhere but most are on the bottom of the mirror for more coverage and the wiring is already there.

I don't think the Edge lights up the door handles but not 100% sure.

I know the MKX has the approach lights that come on when the fob is within about 15 feet and that includes the door handle lights as well as a Lincoln logo that shines down from the puddle lamps.
