johnraz
Hi My 2008 Edge has had an issue for several years where the transmission "slips", even "bangs" on occasion. Seems to happen more often with acceleration. The dealer has told me there are no issues or computer reported problems. I've done a transmission flush @ 80K, it has 140K on it now and I'm hoping to get another year or two out of it. Anyone else having these "slips"? Thinking of doing another flush as an insurance policy. Thanks
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Throttle body cleaning, MAF sensor cleaning, spark plug/PCV valve/coil change, air filter change should all be on the checklist as well. Throttle input is intimately connected with transmission shifting. I would not do another flush unless the fluid looks in primo condition (reddish color, no debris/particulates,etc). Instead, I'd do a 3x drain & fill. If you REALLY want to, you can try a product like Lubegard's Shudder Fixx.

Katie Belton
I also have a 2008, although mine is an MKX. I have been having the same issues since I got mine about a year ago. The other day it shifted hard and the wrench light came on on the dash (power train malfunction). I pulled over and shut it off and it was eventually OK. I posted about it on an Edge Facebook page and they said it is most likely the TSS/OSS speed sensors. Apparently the first few production years are notorious for this. $700-$800 repair at the dealer. It's all labor because you can get both sensors for $100. I was told that if you have one from these years they will eventually go bad. Can be done by a diy'er, but it doesn't look easy. Good luck. macbwt
It can be repaired in the garage with jack stands and some one with methodical abilities. Hi Katie! The hardest part is 1) preparation and gathering the parts and tools ( torque wrench) and then 2) taking a deep breath and starting in on it. Tjr92024
My 2008 Edge did the same thing after I drove it off the lot. Took it back over and over. Nothing wrong. They flushed it, adjusted it with computer. After the warranty was up. The transmission kept doing it. Took back again . Guess what I needed a new transmission. I asked for my service recorders as I was faithful with my services. It show that "customer requested a transmission flush". No other notations. Now I'm a women who knows nothing about cars. Why on earth would I request that . I had to pay for the transmission. also while in reverse my brakes grind loud. Again they keep telling me that's just the Edge. It's so loud it's embrassing. I've put new breaks on both front and back. The dealership put them on. It still does it. I've bought a Ford for 50 years. This is my last. I don't like the run around and being lied too. Done with Ford! Oh I call Ford headquarter. Was told basically to bad! I have 91,000 on my Ford Edge. Transmission replaced at 71,000. One owner! omar302
@Tjr92024 You case sounds like you dealt with a very bad dealer taking advantage of you being a regular repeat customer! The good thing about people living in the US is you always have other dealers to go to if the service done was not satisfactory.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If the brakes are making noise especially when the Edge is driven first thing in the morning, it actually IS a common condition. Much more so if parked overnight and in humid conditions. I have made it a habit to back into my parking spots, but I will still hear a bit of grinding the first time I apply the brakes (surface rust, which is ok). Aftermarket brakes (rotors and pads) may help reduce/cure excessive grinding/hooting noise IMHO.
