vwlfan
I must say so far I am impressed with the fuel economy my wife's 2016 Edge Sport is delivering. She came out of a 2013 2.0L Escape which overall averaged about 24 mpg for 65K miles. She just hit 5000 miles on her Edge and her overall average mpg is a little more than 24.5. On a recent trip over the weekend the Edge averaged a little over 28 mpg with the cruise set to 70 mph on a trip of about 500 total miles. She is more than happy with the added on ramp and passing performance of the 2.7L in a larger vehicle providing similar and sometimes better fuel economy than her Escape.
Burrcold
That's great to hear! Is she using regular or premium fuel?

junehhan
I have 900 miles on the dash and am averaging 24 mpg right now. I thought fuel economy was terrible until I realized that the fuel tank was on the small side. This is my 3rd Ecoboost and have always exceeded EPA ratings. Sounds like you have mastered the art of getting good fuel economy which is almost as simple as resisting the urge to dip into the boost all the time. Nick Halstead
My wife got 23 in our old 3.5. I'm currently getting 20.4 in our 2.7 Sport but I'm very heavy on the gas
pinyin
I've never been able to break 22mpg per tank using 93 octane. This is doing the speed limit, with gentle acceleration, and cruise control at 65mph.
Beezz
lol my lifetime fuel economy is 12.8L /100km or 18.4 mpg. Highway usually gets 11-12 L/100 km (19-21 mpg) cruise set at 120-140 km/h Best I've seen is 9.8 L/100km with the cruise set at 120 km/h over a 400 km trip. shell v power 91 since the 3rd fill up. Honestly not complaining about the lfe because well.. race car

Tjm623
How many miles are on the new car?? I gave mine 3 tanks of gas before even taking the mpg readings with a grain of salt. It needs to break in

Tjm623
Yea my first tank (I'm assuming with that low miles it's your first). I got 13 mpg on a 3.5 v6. Getting 23.5 now. Not saying you'll get those numbers with the 2.7, more of a gauge at how drastict it can change after a few Fill ups

Thanks in advance LOOOL don't worry about that, the reason its so high is because the engine spent most of its time idling or being driven slowly , which consumes fuel like crazy, especially when its new. I get like 35L /100km when I reset the trip computer and sit in the parking lot for 30 mins. Just ignore it, break in the engine, after about 400 km you'll see a change, then once break in is over after ~1200 -1500 km you'll get a consistent reading. I will give it a bit of time but i am worried seeing i drove 60 km and used up 1/4 of a tank DAMN!!! Also the dealer scratched the top part of my rear window spoiler when they replaced the rear window Edited August 21, 2016 by Fordedgesport2016
junehhan
Also keep in mind that these Sports have a pretty small fuel tank. It will get better as I am now at 24 mpg after 1300 miles on the highway at 60 mph. City driving is usually not very kind to these vehicles in general as idling and accelerating uses a lot of petrol. I replaced a 2014 ford explorer (6 cylinder) that was getting me a little over 19 L/100km in city driving, i will see if the ford edge sport which right now is at 22L/100km can match the ford explorer We will see Also what should i do about the 4inch scratch (not deep but visible in the clear-coat on top side of the rear spoiler) i dont want the dealer touching my car anymore. I will get this buffed out by a professional??? I had to also very delicatly remove any tiny glass fragments that were stuck to the paint. All this becuase the dealer broke the rear window. At least they teplaced the window.
cjh
I'm constantly very surprised by the fuel economy in this truck. It's so good! My Fusion Titanium with the 2.0 EcoBoost would never break 27mpg on the highway and always averaged around 22mpg combined. My Edge averages 22mpg and has exceeded 27mpg on the highway. I don't understand how.

I don't understand how. Depends on the year of the fusion, but i believe in 2015 they redesigned the 2.0 turbo system to a twin scoll on the exhaust side of the turbo, with a few other changes of course. More fuel economy & more power. There's many articles on this on the Google, here's a quick one i found: http://www.carscoops.com/2014/12/ford-details-2015-edges-new-twin-scroll.html?m=1 I have gotten close to 29mpg on my edge after a trip to Virginia Beach & back. 28.72 going through the hills of Pennsylvania & idiotic traffic jams of Virginia. I believe 30 is possible but don't plan on any road trips for awhile to test. Edited August 21, 2016 by lildisco
junehhan
I also had a 2014 Fusion a Titanium with the 2.0 and got very good fuel economy. At 60 mph, it was around 34. At 65-68, it got 31. At 72 mph, it got 29 mpg. I exclusively ran it on premium fuel which also really flattened out the torque curve.
vwlfan
Jumped in my wife's Edge to check the oil and noticed that while not a long trip she just did a round trip of about 15 miles with that short trip showing 28.5 mpg. We live in a very hilly/mountainous area so even that 15 miles had some nice climbs, curves, flats, and descents. My 05 F150 could take a few lessons from these new motors and their associated technology. We have also found that using the adaptive cruise when on bigger open roads gives the best mpg, as the slow downs and speed ups are really smoothed out preventing the engine from wasting fuel from harsh changes in speed. junehhan
I think your wife drives too slow. That kind of mpg would be the envy of even a FWD SE with the twin scroll 2.0 litre.
Tjm623
That's not a sustainable number. Nor is a 15 mile trip a good representative of MPG. My gauge always shows 26-28 when I first reset and slowly goes down to 22. Works its way back up to 24 with my driving and usually settles around 23.5.
jmr061
I am just curiuos how everyone is arriving at their MPG rating? Is it by the MPG stated in the cluster or are you doing it the old fashioned way of gallons@pump/miles driven? My cluster MPG has been 1 to 1.5 MPG over the actual gallons@pump/miles driven calculation. BTW I have been very happy with my results. On the HWY I have seen over the 24 MPG rated on the window sticker. This is the first vehicle I have owned that gets better than the sticker rating.
Fordedgesport2016
Hi I think there is something wrong with my fuel meter From a full tank and after i drove about 300km my fuel indicator stated i was low on fuel and fuel needle was at empty .... This was weird So i went to the gas station and filled up. I only used 15 liters to fill back up to full status ... 15 liters is not much So after filling up with 15 liters my fuel needle is backup to full My fuel reading is between 21L/100km-25L/100 Can anyone confirm: on a full tank my reading states 394km Distance to Empty Thats about 245 miles Distance to empty Can you guys please confirm? I have pictures How do i post pictures? Edited August 28, 2016 by Fordedgesport2016
junehhan
I Would take it to the dealer. When my low fuel light came on, I was barely able to cram 15 gallons so that does not sound right,
