Ford Edge 2008 Acts Like it Can't Get Gas When Accelerating

Does anyone have any ideas why, at times my Edge(just shy of 70K miles) will not take the gas? It happens around 50 or 55, not before or after. Just driving along accelerating to speed limit and suddenly the engine acts like it is starving for gas...almost like it wants to quit on me. The car will actually buck a little.

The local, trustworthy mechanic suggested using gas w/o ethanol, available only at our local Stewart Shops. This helps tremendously, but still will do a bit of "bucking". Putting the least expensive gas in the car gets the worst reaction.

Last year a new gas tank/filter were replaced due to a recall and it hasn't helped at all. The car has been "bucking" since the fall of '14.

Other than that, we love the car! Just replaced the 8 year old battery last month, still has original brakes, though we squeak when backing out the garage each day.

Ideas will be appreciated.

Welcome! You have a very "young" Edge :) The first thing to do is to pull codes from the PCM (computer). Codes can be set without setting a check engine light.

The easiest thing is to try running a couple of tankfuls of Techron Concentrate Plus fuel system cleaner, back to back. Also, drain&fill of trans fluid (Motorcraft Mercon V or a quality substitute brand) would eliminate another possible source of the issue (it's hard to tell engine/trans issues apart sometimes). If it happens even at cruise, there could be an intermittent issue with torque converter lockup.

Does your Edge have AWD?
