chefduane
Hello from Dallas, Texas! I am a new member and am considering buying a Gen II ('11-'14). I will be moving from a '98 Explorer 4.0 SOHC 4x4 (212k miles!) and I am interested in the 3.5L AWD Limited. I have my eye on a 2011. I was hoping to get some insight as to what things to look out for in a Gen II and if there are any particular years within the '11-'14 models that were recommended or not recommended. Also, were there any significant model changes/upgrades within the Gen II model years. Thanks for any info in advance! I am happy to be here, and will offer whatever I can that might be relevant. Perhaps after my Edge purchase I might be able to contribute a bit more, but will probably also have some questions also! Chef Duane

enigma-2
Check Consumer's Reports Annual Auto Guide. They show all pros and cons reported for past model years. (You can find a copy at your local library). They definitely do have certain recommendations as to which years to avoid. (One you are considering is listed as a definate avoid). chefduane
Enigma, thanks. I am checking out multiple sources. I was hoping to get some feedback here from members who have had direct experience with some Gen II models.

Gatorman
The last of the good looking and relatively trouble free of the model years. Anything beyond that is pure crap. ESPECIALLY the new ones. Way overpriced and loaded with too much garbage that's bound to fail and cost you big bucks to fix. I know opinions are like a-holes, and everybody's got one, this just happens to be mine.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
I think every "generation" of Edge has something to offer. You just have to decide what you need, and what you want. For me, it was equally important to have warranty coverage, especially on the items known most frequently to go bad. For example, if you have AWD, I would want the PTU/driveshaft/RDU covered. If you have a 2011-14, I would want APIM, brake booster (extended warranty from Ford BTW), door latch, throttle body, and shifter coverage. Or build in a budget for it, or be an avid DIY'r to save money. Meticulous maintenance records are a huge +, especially if you see brake flushes, trans flushes etc in the history.
