mabus320
I purchased a 2015 Edge SEL with no tow package and would like to add one. I am debating on whether I should go to Ford for this and get it done properly or to save the money and go to U Haul for the hitch and wiring. The only real concern is about the wiring. When I see tow packages on new cars on the lot, the car has a plug near the receiver hitch for plugging in the trailer (or whatever is being towed). The last time I had an after market hitch installed on an SUV the wiring was done but was stored in the spare tire well in the SUV. It worked but was a bit tacky especially considering I had to close the hatch on the wiring when towing anything (not sure if I am making this clear). I want it to look as professional as possible and don't want to have wires loose like that again. I want to be able to have a permanent spot on the hitch to plug in the wiring from the trailer. I am not sure this can be done by Uhaul. I don't mind spending the money at Ford (quoted 700-800) total installed if it will look as if it came from the factory. Anyone with experience in getting this done pleas comment and help me out. Thanks. Edited July 25, 2016 by mabus320
akirby
Assuming the Ford dealer is using Ford parts it should look just like stock. I think you can get wire holders that attach to the hitch which would be more like OEM. Just for reference, you can get an aftermarket hitch and wiring for about $250. enigma-2
Which ever way you go, keep in mind that an aftermarket hitch will limit your trailer to 1,500 lb max (with 2.0 engine) or 2,000 lbs max (with 2.7 or 3.5 engines).
akirby
I think that's true even if the dealer adds the factory hitch because you're not getting the upgraded cooling and other things that come with the factory tow package. The hitch itself is the same and attaches the same way. Edited July 25, 2016 by akirby
