Kevin Fonash
Hi Everyone First post here... looking to possibly get a 2016 Edge Sport. Test drove one a few weeks ago... and when i had just the vista roof open, it made that weird pressure/helicopter noise that was resolved when I cracked one of the windows open. My question-- does that happen to you? I really enjoy having the sunroof open but the other windows closed, especially on cool nights. If it's going to keep making that sound, that's a bummer. Thanks!
James Costa
Hi Kevin, I have a 2016 and I really enjoy it. I have found that with the vista roof all the way open, it can make the throbbing air pressure sound if none of the windows are open. Usually I crack the rear windows a tiny amount and that takes care of it. Alternatively, with the vista roof just 'venting' (different button), it just kicks the back of the vista roof up, but it does not make the throbbing sound. Though I find that having any or all windows open in combination with the vista roof gives the best/quickest venting of air. The only thing I have not tried is opening the roof all the way, windows up, with air venting on via A/C console (no cooling though, just outside venting) to see if it still creates some throbbing air turbulence. I'm going out in a few minutes and will check it out and report back.
akirby
I would have sworn I answered this already. Did you post it somewhere else? You're probably opening it all the way and if you do that you must crack a window as James says. If you press the open button once and let it open until it stops that's the "comfort position" and you shouldn't get the buffeting or droning. Only open it all the way at lower speeds.
tloewenberg
I definitely agree with the other posters. I'm on my second Edge, a Limited. This car and my former 2008 SEL, also with the sun-roof, all exhibit(ed) the same characteristics. enigma-2
Actually it's a no-cost feature. Stops nagging.
Kevin Fonash
Thanks for the replies. And no I didn't post before, this was my first post on this forum. I see what you're all saying... I think my next step is to just open it a little (comfort position spot) and see if that works like you mentioned. That would be more in line with how "large" of an opening my Malibu has right now. Sunroof open, heated seats on... But windows up.. Gotta love it! Can you open and close the roof at any position? Like if I only wanted it open like 6 inches
akirby
Yes - just hold the button until it gets to where you want it or hit the button a second time to stop it if it's going by itself.

Thanks! I think all vehicles with a sun/moon roof do that. At least every vehicle I've been in will do that at some certain speed. In my 2005 chevy it does that unless I open the window a crack--especially around 40 mph.
