greenmint
Hey all, New to the community, this is my first post. Just bought a 2013 Ford Edge Limited AWD last week. I know the advertised MPG (18/25) is always going to be a bit higher than what you actually get, but I feel that I'm getting lower than I should. I'm averaging 15-16.5 mpg driving in the city and country roads (but mainly city). Keep in mind: 1. My Edge has got 68000 miles on it, so I know it's definitely "broken in" enough. 2. I've been easy with my foot on the gas. 3. I've reset my fuel economy thing a couple times. This is actually my first car purchase as well, and I'm not a mechanic by any means so any feedback would be much appreciated, thanks! Also if there is a better place to start this thread let me know.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Welcome to the community, greenmint. Stop and go driving does take a toll on mpg, but you can try running fuel injector cleaner (Techron & BG 44K recommend) through a couple of tankfuls of gas to help break up any clogs in the fuel system and let the fuel injectors and pump work properly. Change the air filter also (Motorcraft brand recommended). Use the right weight oil, and the right filter. Since you have AWD, you have the 3.5L engine, right? Use Motorcraft brand oil & filter if unsure what to pick from. Then after the FI cleaner has run through the gas tank, start keeping tabs on mileage, see if there's improvement.

Thanks, but what you think of SF16 seafoam cleaner what of cleaners will be better? Edited July 30, 2016 by EDST777
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
No experience with Seafoam, but if the internet is to be believed, it is a popular fuel and engine oil treatment. I am sure if you follow the directions (and read on how people have done it), it will work fine.
enigma-2
Thanks, but what you think of SF16 seafoam cleaner what of cleaners will be better? Two different types of products. If you look at the Material Safety Data Sheet for SeaFoam, it lists three ingredients: pale oil (mildly hydrotreated paraffinic oil), naptha (hexane) and IPA (isopropyl alcohol). It consists only of solvents - not chemicals with active components like the Techron product. SeaFoam will disolve gum if it's left to sit for a period. Its also good to prevent Ethanol from separating out of gas that sits for more than 30 days. If your looking to clean injectors, valves and the like, use Techron. Recommended by all automobile manufactures. Edited July 31, 2016 by enigma-2

Yes, I wish to clean nozzles and to make it most softly and safely, thank you, but why those people don't know about danger of damage of elastic bands of SF? They didn't read our forum?)
