cancelled dealer appointment

I submitted a price inquiry / request to one of my local dealers to let them know what I was looking for. they sent me a few emails and the internet sales manager guy introduced himself. I told him what colors and configuration / options I wanted and he said he would look for one like that. the next day, someone (not the same guy) called me from the dealer to make an appointment for me to come in so they can ask me some questions.

I was supposed to go to the dealer today, but they don't even have an SEL in stock. if I'm not going to be able to see what I'm actually interested in buying, is there any reason to even go there? so I cancelled my appointment. but I'm probably not planning to buy my Edge for a few more months anyway.

I'll give them a chance to sell me when they actually have the one I want, but until then this seems like a waste of time. shouldn't I just have them call me back when they find one?

In the meantime I was planning to go to another dealer that does have an SEL in stock, to sit in it or test drive. I'd probably not consider buying it since there's not one the color I want or anything else and I don't care for this dealership but at least I'd be able to sit in and try it out.

any similar experiences so far? Thanks! :)
