tamugrad2013
Good evening, I am heading to Colorado tomorrow morning and have never been so I have a few questions. I am planning on staying in Colorado Springs. First off I know to use a low gear when going down hills so when I start going down should I start it in low or shift down to low when needed. Second part on this is how slow do I need to be going to shift down into low. Since I have the 2012 Ecoboost I do not have the manual mode just L with hill assist. Second Question. Will the 4 cylinder have issues in the higher elevations of Colorado and would it be advisable to put Higher Octane Fuel in During this trip. I have about 400 miles until I hit Colorado so my tank of 87 octane will be about gone by then. I have never had problems with 87 octane but I feel like 91 or 93 may be best for the higher altitudes. Any advice will be appreciated. When I was up in the Smokey Mountains the car ran great but I never went super high up. Any advice will be appreciated. Many Thanks. akirby
It's actually the opposite - at higher altitudes you need lower octane so 87 is fine. If all you have is L and no select shift you can shift to L at any time - the computer won't do anything that's harmful. You may still have to use the brakes a little. Just don't stay on them for a long time without getting off them for a bit to let them cool down.
tamugrad2013
Well I appreciate the quick response. I will try and get some pics of the Edge in the mountains and national parks. I love that this car looks great all the time especially in pictures.

Redbow
Should be no problem with anything. The computer will adjust to the conditions automatically. Like Akirby said, don't ride the brakes. Give um time to cool every now and them. Nothing scarier than have them fade to nothing. Love Colorado, have fun and be safe. Burke
Waldo
Don't use L, but use the hill assist button on the side of the shifter.
tamugrad2013
I thought I would give y'all a little update. L has done well on the really steep parts and grade assist works great on the gentler grades. As for the car it has been very good so far. Only one minor hiccup this morning. I woke up around 5:45 to get ready to head up Pikes Peak. I had to run to Wal-Mart and was headed out of Colorado Springs at 7:00 to be first in line for the road to open at 7:30. Well I got about 2 miles out of town and I get a low tire pressure warning. Only second one since I have had the car. Well found a discount tire got there 45 minutes before they open and waited. Luckily they opened 10 minutes early for me because I was waiting outside. Apparently something with the valve stem became loose causing a slow leak. They fixed it up and I was out of the store 10 minutes after they "Officially" opened and free of charge.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Great service Sidebar. Pikes Peak and no pics will net you negative karma points, just so you know
tamugrad2013
I got a few pics. I will say my favorite thing so far was Dillon, CO and the Drive from Denver to Dillon on I-70 the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnel is something to behold.
