t0lkman
Is the ride on 20" wheels much rougher than on 18"? Can one sitting inside actually tell the difference?
cjh
I have the 21s, a friend has an SEL with 18s and the difference is pretty noticeable, in my opinion. I love the look of my wheels but they are very choppy and stiff over bumps in the pavement.
enigma-2
I have 20's on my MKX. They are rougher and a little louder, but not so much as to make a big difference. Lot better looking, the difference is minor imo.
t0lkman
i really didn't care about the look, but my new titanium 2016 has 20" I would prefer smooth ride over the look
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If you want a gentler ride on larger wheels, find a tire with the characteristics you want (e.g. softer sidewall). Reviews at TireRack, for instance. More than likely will lose some handling ability, not a lot, but some.
evh
A family member has a 2008 AWD MKX with 20" (Pirelli Scorpions?). I have a 2009 AWD Edge Limited with 18" with some type of Toyo's. The MKX has about 60K miles, mine has 180K and drives much smoother. I have stayed away from looking at Edge's with the larger wheels because my perception was the bigger wheels may give it a harsher ride. I'm glad this was posted, others seem to be confirming the same. Edited June 8, 2016 by evh

akirby
It depends a lot on your roads. Around Atlanta I've never found 20" or 21" wheels to be harsh at all, but YMMV.

Yeah, that factors into it for sure. I feel the wheels have an influence too though - the 21s have very little tire sidewall compared to the rest of the Edge models. omar302
For sure the wheels also have an impact on ride harshness.
Nick Halstead
For what its worth. My 17in fusion hybrid rides like it has no tires on the rims compared to my 20in sport wheels
