Scoulis
I recently have bene getting a message on the dash "Shift to Park" when I park the car, dealer told be that I need to replace the shifter assembly at a cost of almost $500. The car just came out of the comprehensive warranty at 67K and is not covered by the powertrain warranty? How is this not covered? It doesn't make any sense. Anyone else have the same issue? rwf78155
My 2013 Edge Sport has just recently started telling me to "Shift to Park" when Ive got it in park in the garage. Ive resrted it shifted to reverse then to park and still get the message. Is there a recall regarding this ?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
No recall. TSB maybe. http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=189151
rwf78155
Thanks... Im off to my Ford dealer with the tsb in hand .
akirby
The TSB just says to replace the shifter assembly. It doesn't change the warranty status.

akirby
Luckily I bought the Ford extended warranty Some people mistakenly think a TSB is like a recall and it's free.
rwf78155
Dealer just called me and said Ford has refused to pay for the Shift To Park fix even under Fords best extended warranty ...which I have ! WTF Ford ?.... When I bought the warranty the sales pitch was.... "It virtually everything other than tires, and light bulbs"
akirby
Always read the fine print - it lists exactly what is or is not covered, regardless of what the salesperson said. That said I would have thought it was covered but from what I can see Ford is correct - it's not covered by the premium ESP. That's one reason I never buy them although Ford's Premium plan is way better than the 3rd party plans. I really think Ford should extend the factory warranty on these and the door latches.
rwf78155
The dealership just called me and my total out of pocket to replace the shifter....... $204.00 Not bad at all ! Griffith Ford said they are just going to charge me for the part and NOT the repair cost .... Awesome dealership !
akirby
Nice! I think it's also a fairly simple DIY procedure - it's all electronic now - no cables.
enigma-2
You can buy it new for $120 on ebay. Auction #112027920529
omar302
engma-2, the Sport's shifter doesn't have +/- buttons on it. So you have to make sure the part number is correct.
PaulSchott
The $84.00 difference isn't worth the hassle of buying it on EBay, waiting for delivery and hoping the part is correct. Don't forget the dealer is doing the installation for free. Sounds like a dealer that wants you to return.

bicsintegra
i just had mine done under a 3rd party exyended warranty for free, Ford was rather upset when I told them about the 3rd party warranty through my credit union. they also replaced a rear hub, and the barkae lines needed to be replaced. the total bill was almost 1700 and all I had to pay was a 250 dollar deductible. Yeah 3rd party warranty!

murka
This just happend to me yesterday. spent 4 hours at the dealership. Luckily I have an extended warranty and it only cost me $100.00. Car has 43000 miles on it. At 35000 the differential ( I think ) cracked that was two days in the shop. And the SD card in the navigation system said it had a "fault", plus the reverse sensoring system wasn't working correctly.. This is my second edge. my first was a 2007. Had over 100,000 miles on it ...never a problem. Got rid of it because I figured things were going to start going wrong. But this car that I have now is way too new for the problems that it has had. enigma-2
Why would Ford be upset about a 3rd party warranty?Years ago I had a non-Ford warranty. It was a pain for the dealer. THEY haD to get everything approved before hand, each part. They would honor one thing if it broke in one way, but not if it broke in another. Dealer had to negotiate every repair and worried about getting paid. Seemed like they felt that nothing was their responsibility. Never again. I'll pay extra so I know exactly what I'm covered on. Oh, so the DEALER was upset about dealing with the warranty company, NOT FORD.
