t0lkman
looks like there is no SDCARD and AUX support? I saw it in 2015 MY
akirby
No more SD cards with sync 3 and the non USB aux input has been removed from newer models across the ford lineup.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Do you know why Ford did this, akirby? No more SD cards with sync 3 and the non USB aux input has been removed from newer models across the ford lineup.
akirby
I assume it's cheaper to do map updates online rather than provide cards.

luxpow
Couple of reasons I can guess 1) To make space for more USB ports 2) To reduce clutter 3) To reduce testing efforts for things that are less commonly use 4) Maybe the new HW platform from the vendor just didnt have AUX or SDCARD interface and Ford would have had to pay extra in money and time to get those added 5) Reduce number of choices in the sources menu 6) Reduce cost 7) People who really really really want to use SD card can buy a $1.99 USB based SD card reader from Frys ;-) Edited May 30, 2016 by luxpow
enigma-2
No more SD cards with sync 3 and the non USB aux input has been removed from newer models across the ford lineup. Was given a 2016 Lincoln MKX as a loaner last week and the nav unit was unable to track my position because the display had the error "no sd card inserted". Is the nav unit in the MKX different from the Edge?

Is the nav unit in the MKX different from the Edge? That must have been an early build MKX with MFT not sync 3.
akirby
My guess is they are attempting to prevent people from buying used SD cards of Ebay and not pay retail. Possible, but aftermarket upgrades pale in comparison to what it costs them to supply sd cards for every new nav equipped vehicle. That's probably over a million a year. Add in the cost of the hardware and it's easily $10 total per vehicle, maybe $20. That's $10M - $20M per year savings. Not to mention the hassle of dealers losing them, etc.
