Feirstein
My 2007 Edge sometimes misfires. It is quite random. Code tells me there is a missfire in cylinder No. 5. Dealer said I needed new coils and plugs. I changed out the plugs and replaced all the coils. This effort and expense did not cure the misfire. Using "logic" I changed out the fuel injector for cylinder No. 5. This did not cure the misfire. It is assumed the cylinder No. 5 is the center cylinder located in the forward bank of cylinders. I have run out of ideas. The vehicle has about 170,000 miles on the clock and runs great, otherwise. Any suggestions?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
No issues with mileage? Might very well be a slightly damaged wire harness on the #5 cylinder. Have you inspected it for integrity? Any carbon buildup in the cylinders? Could be occasionally chunking off and causing the misfire (secondary ignition). Inspect with boroscope (USB one should be good enough). Tried fuel system cleaners like Techron on BG 44K? I found that I had the best results from an ongoing addition of TC-W3 (WalMart brand) oil at 4-5 oz per tankful. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Honestly, sounds like a wiring/harness issue to me, could be a more general ground issue but I don't think the injectors are individually grounded.
